the upshot of losing to UpstateI don't know how we lost to SC Upstate, but when I saw the score from my hotel room i practically puked. To add insult to injury, I saw the glorious final score while watching Houston whip Kentucky on ESPN at Hoffheinz Pavilion no less. Thats the University of Kentucky, not Kentucky Upstate College. How did Houston get a home game against UK? Maybe they just asked, who knows. Gillespie wants to recruit Texas thats for sure. Meanwhile we are playing SC Upstate for our home games and somehow losing. Maybe the problems are even deeper than i thought at SMU. Was Turner there last night or is he hiding over the football joke?
A more enlightening exercise would be to look at their roster and see how they built a team that blew out Kentucky
4 bigtime Division 1A transfers from Auburn, UT, DePaul and Seton Hall and in addition a collection of about 6 other JUCO/Prep/College transfers http://uhcougars.cstv.com/sports/m-bask ... l-mtt.html
Re: the upshot of losing to UpstateTurner was not anywhere to be seen at last night's game...however, he was at the Christmas party he hosted on campus today for SMU retirees. My mother attended.
SMU cannot get the players on Houston's roster because they do not take many of the transfer hours (am I beating a dead horse here?).
SMU is bad for a reason. We are not bad by accident. There is a reason SMU is one of the worst Div. 1-A athletic programs (don't give me the Men's soccer argument). SMU does not have bad luck or curses hexed upon it. SMU's restrictions and rules place it at an uncompetitive disadvantage. Another problem SMU has is the bias against it from DISD and local schools for what happened to Tubbs. Why is Doherty having to comb the schools of California for recruits when some of the top players are in SMU's backyard? Answer: SMU has burned a lot of bridges and cannot get a look from any of the local kids. Hopefully, Doherty can help change things in the coming yearas.
Advantage EVERY other conference mate except Rice....
Re: the upshot of losing to Upstate
Interesting tidbit. Gillespie actually tried to backout of this game once he took the UK job. He wanted no part in continuing the series and he basically got blasted here in the Chronicle and called out a bit by UH's AD also.
You are so right. bigtime D1A transfers, top JUCO players from b-ball factories like San Jac, then sprinkle in a top Texas HS recruit some too (Lanny Smith and Brockieth Payne). They have a very strong roster, which is great for CUSA. They could be a legit #2 team in the NCAA's for us this year and UAB is pretty darn good too.
The Ticket guys (Sportsradio 1310) just read an e-mail from a guy in South Carolina who says losing to Upstart is almost like losing to a community college. Corby and Rhyner agreed it was "embarassing" and compared it to losing to Richland College.
Nice.
Penders set up the 1:1 with UK. UH played at UK last year, and yes, Gillespie tried to back out of the return trip. UH also hosts Arizona this year.
Pane is a really good freshman from Dallas but the vast majority of the players are transfers. Penders wanted to "win now." One of the transfers is Kelvin Lewis, ex TCU coach, Ice Lewis' son from Auburn. Hoping for a big win over PVAMU tonight!
Re: the upshot of losing to Upstate
Do you actually expect him to be there at every game???? That isn't his job.
Re: the upshot of losing to UpstateI was just reporting the facts. I can't speak for RushStPony.
