It was another miserable shooting night. Think we were about 37 percent. But we were 30-45 (that's a lot of attempts for 67 percent) at FT line. That needs to get better.

We are a bad foul shooting team. And I think we got outrebounded. Ridiculous.

The good news is they won. Now, they got about eight days to get it figured out for their little tournament.

Again, if we get to 10 wins this year, consider that a gift.

We shot 32.4%(12 for 37) from the floor, were out rebounded 38-29, had only 4 assists on 12 made FG's, and shot 20% (3 for 15) from 3 point land.

However, we did win and aside from rebounding, our "hustle" numbers looked good; 13 steals, 9 blocks, and only 11 turnovers.

According to Doh, everyone tight including himself. Won the game on defense. Unsung hero was Ryan Harp with 24 minutes of all out hustle on the defensive end. This team can shoot much better. The question is when? I have seen every home game and it is not fun (except beating the Frogs).

Its not fun, is it? some terrible, terrible basketball tonight. If Prairie View is not the worst team in the country I would be surprised. Horrible. And we've seen some bad ones this year. It was a sad night for me. My 11 year loves basketball. He wanted to leave at halftime he was so bored. I had to actually convince him to stay and watch a little of the second half. How sad is that? He went to the Duncanville-Oak Hill game last night so who can blame him. The crowds are as small and flat as I have ever seen them at SMU and that again is saying something. The team is not improving after 10 games. The schedule is an absolute joke. The most positive thing i can say at the moment is that we just might be a team that simply plays to its competition. We certainly play down to the level of some awful programs, time will tell in a few weeks if we can play up. A little skeptical after Dayton blowout but hope springs eternal. I think our schedule is really doing a disservice to the program right now. Nobody cares, the players are flat, the people that come are not entertained and the team doesn't seem to be improving in any real way.

A win is a win. A loss tonight would have been catastrophic for this program, coach, and players. A win, regardless of how expected it is, will help them get past the SC Upstate debacle.

I was there tonite...glad we won. No one really shot that well....even Roberts and Killen who normally shoot pretty good. In the second half coach emphasized defense and it was a thing of beauty....our boys really played them tight. They had several guys that had played alot of basketball and they had played together more than this year....all this helps develope team chemistry. This team lost to Tennessee only 89 to 75 which tells us they have some athletes...We missed so many layups that normally we make...effort was there and the fight was in them...Bamba is getting better and Papa Dia is getting tougher...Walker is going to be a steady player as he shows improvement....Harp showed us some good defense tonite...Some negatives and some positives...Improvement is what we are looking for....Go Mustangs!!!

I doubt there were 2,100 there on Thursday. How many fannys were really there?

Glad to hear the defense was better. That is one the one constant in hoops. If you stink offensively, if you can shut down the other guy, you'll always be in position to win.

But I'm not getting carried away over a win over a bottom-of-the-pack SWAC team.

I'm just glad we won.

The playing tight statements really concern me.
That is a coaching problem. There is nothing positive from that.
I've been on both sides of the fence.

You can't be looking over your shoulder @ the coach all the time.

If anything, a young team should be loose & having fun.

Do the players look like they are having fun?

I'm OK with having this soft schedule this year since we are predominately a freshman squad this year. I bet our schedule gets tougher next year as our team matures and gets tougher.

Having fun = winning in my book.

I think playing the soft schedule is a bad thing.

You only get better by playing against better players/teams.

They need to be playing quality teams in front of big crowds on the road on a regular basis. Prepares them for conference.
They need to taste what it is like to play big time D1 basketball.

Another thing, its great for recruiting.

Show potential recruits you are playing @ North Carolina, UCLA, Kansas next year & years to come. Then schedule your TCU's, UNT, Baylors,
UTA's, StepF, Sam Houstons around the big timers.

Can't Doh get a 1:1 or 2:1 with UNC to play at Moody? That would be sweet.

The TCU game was great, but there was a big push for that one. It's sort of like UNT's game vs. OK State but the Mean Green has steadily built on the momentum of last year's tourney appearance.

Will Doh bring in a JUCO or two next year to complement all these freshmen? Is it really that tough to bring in JUCOs? If so, is it because SMU has a high transfer GPA requirement or because it doesn't transfer many hours and the athletes lose a significant amount of courses?

It's the transfer of hours or lack thereof from what I understand.
