New Names ?Too much time has come and gone for Fran and Coker. If Orsini really wanted either of them, one would already be hired. He is either waiting on a bowl game to finish to complete a hire or he has an NFL coach in mind. Anyone want to speculate on that who that might be ???
Re: New Names ?
You name a coach and we've already speculated his potential as the new SMU hire. Enough already. Just wait. There's nothing more we can do but wait on Orsini to announce a hire. We have to trust that Orsini knows what he is doing until he proves otherwise. Rehashing debates over who it could be will not speed up nor affect any decisions to be made. It's just a waste of time.
PK,
I think it is fair game for ALL of us to judge this new hire versus having Barnett for 60+ days or Fran for 30+ days (and counting). That is why he better be a WOW hire, because those 2 are such solid choices. Expect more amateur ADism on National Signing Date.
does gil have a bowl game?

I think out HC is going to be Jon Tenuta. One of the best DCs in the game, coached at SMU, he is coaching Georgia Tech in their bowl game. At least that is the only candidate i can think of that we can still be waiting for......and I would have taken Barnett 60 days ago over him in a heart beat
No! He went 5-7 and shouldn't be considered for this job.
I'm betting on Mike Shula. He wouldn't leave the Jags early - they are going into the playoffs strong and have a chance to win it all if New England gets tripped up.
Once Jacksonville is out of the playoffs, I think he's the guy.

Gene Stallings, who was a great coach himself, says Mike Shula is a great coach who did not get a fair chance at Alabama....Mike Shula's record at Alabama 10-2 in 2005 and 6-6 in 2006. Two good recruiting classes at Alabama in Rivals Top 15 in 2004 & 2005...New Alabama head coach Saban was 6-6 this year.
I will be okay with that, but I believe he is smat enough not to take the SMU job. He will wait for the RIGHT D1 HC position.

I only watched his Alabama team play once when they beat Texas Tech in the Cotton Bowl a few years ago. I think Shula would also be able to recruit well or alot better than we have been. Wasn't Mike Shula on Jimmie Johnson's Cowboys staff in the early years ? If Gene Stallings says he is that good, I hope we offer him.
That was David Shula, who was the QB coach and later went on to coach the Bengals.
Hey, I was just responding to TheBestAvailable's post. I have to laugh though every time a name comes up because half the people posting on here don't like that name. I will be totally amazed if SO can come up with anyone that everyone will be happy with. I say we all chill out and give whoever comes a chance to show us what they can do. Seriously, the truly elite coaches aren't exactly knocking our doors down to be our new HC, so whoever we get is probably going to be a notch or two down from the truly "Best" coach in America.
