Re: Bennett Threatens To Drop TCUWAY TO GO Navy/Crimson! You are soooo right!
Great Great Great points.....loving it! Come on people, read again what Navy/Crimson just stated above. He is RIGHT! I do believe that moving into the CUSA was a great move for SMU and all a part of the rebuilding process. It does take time. Time that we have to give Bennett. He has a plan, trust me, he does. Bennett is going to need our support at all times, even if we're not winning. People stop being so negative and BELIEVE! Hang in there bro! Good Luck on Saturday w/bulldogs :showoff:
Re: Bennett Threatens To Drop TCUthank ya sistersister.
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
Re: Bennett Threatens To Drop TCUHypocrites! You just bailed on the WAC to make a move you thought was positive for your program. We're not entitled to do the same thing?????
Re: Bennett Threatens To Drop TCUOh, and by the way Stallion, I believe the series record between us is tied. Not exactly a lifetime of butt-kickings. And if you go back to 1915 when you johnny-come-latelys started playing football, TCU has a better won-loss record than SMU.
Re: Bennett Threatens To Drop TCUI still would love to see the Froggies come to town undefeated and leave with a Big L on their record. Watching the game last night, if we can blitz them and if our d backs can play like they did against Fresno, it could be another Baylor type game. I think that Bennett knows a great deal about how to defense Patterson's offense. As you can see the Froggies vaunted defense has a small problem with runs up the middle. If KK can ram it down their throats and if we can complete a pass or two, we might surprise them and us. BTW- TCU should have lost last night, if the Louisville kicker could have made a chip shot or a 44 yarder that hit the crossbar squarely at the end.

Re: Bennett Threatens To Drop TCU:sleeping:
Would, coulda, shoulda, blah blah blah Didn't happen - we won. Its not always pretty, but we keep finding ways to win. Green is not your best color.
Re: Bennett Threatens To Drop TCUI would agree with the froggie above. TCU does have the right to move if it betters them. However, unless there is a deal afoot giving someone's BCS slot to MWC, how can it possibly better them. $200k/yr won't begin to express the difference in travel costs. And I haven't seen their(MWC) teams mentioned for Natl. Champs lately either. Is anyone in that conference ranked anywhere right now?
I don't know that much about the BCS deal. But I think I read somewhere that the current contract expires in 2006. This all assumes the BCS survives Congress and the courts. But is the MWC preparing/planning to improve their status (adding TCU, Boise, Fresno, etc.) and taking the Big East slot. While I would guess it's a posibility, I'd had to bet lunch money on that many contingencies - much less my athletic department future. Long live Thomas Sowell!
Re: Bennett Threatens To Drop TCUsmudad - I gotta believe that the TCU administration has analyzed the situation pretty thoroughly and will make an informed decision about the future of our program. In spite of all the hype and blustering of our fans & posters on various boards, I doubt our powers-that-be will make a knee-jerk decision on something this important any more than did yours.

Re: Bennett Threatens To Drop TCUI read that article this morning too, and I was frustrated about it at first. I've been wondering as I've read these threads though, perhaps, Bennett's comments were designed to give the TCU administration pause. To let them know that there will be a large rift created between the two schools if TCU leaves CUSA. To let them know that an assumption they may have counted on (playing SMU) in their cost analysis of the move to the MWC isn't something they should have counted on. Meaning that they will have to incur increased cost to schedule another OOC opponent that won't be within easy driving distance, making their travel costs that much more expensive, than the 200,000 they came up with. I doubt it would affect it that much but it is a possiblity.

Re: Bennett Threatens To Drop TCUAnother thought....I know last summer there was some talk about the rules to maintain a conference, in that you have to have a certain number of schools together for a certain number of years to get all the perks of being a 'conference' (tournament bid, etc.) If TCU leaves, and takes Houston with them as some are speculating does CUSA lose their conference status and their automatic bid to the NCAA tournament?

Re: Bennett Threatens To Drop TCUI agree that TCU is probably doing a thorough analysis of moving. However, part of it has to be emotional. How stable is the new CUSA? I think they are worried that Memphis may be gone soon as well. Also, which conference will be the sixth strongest football conference in 2006? BE, MAC, MWC or CUSA? BE will have Pitt, WVa., Syracuse, UL. MWC will have BYU, AFA, CSU. CUSA will have Marshall, USM, and ???. The MAC will have Bowling Green, No. Ill, and Miami of OH. The key question will be which one can consistently put a top 15 team on the field every year? Or put another way, if I'm ABC which conference will I want for television? This is where the BE wins. They will have probably the best basketbal conference in the Country. They are not stupid. They will say to ABC and CBS, football and basketball are a package deal. If you don't pay us well for both, then we'll go to NBC or Fox and compete with your basketball time slots. The BCS will recognize them because that's who ABC wants. Also, look at the markets. All east coast and large midwestern markets. What markets will be served by the MWC? Salt Lake, Denver? No winner there for the MWC. I think it is a virtual certainty that MWC does not get a BCS bid, if there is a BCS. If they don't TCU will spend a lot of money for nothing and there's no guarantee that CUSA would take them back after they flipped the bird at CUSA (especially if their football program withers out west). Unfortunately, they probably will view it that if the BE doesn't keep its BCS bid that it will go to another conference and the MWC would be the next strongest with them in it. It is a speculative lateral move on their part which may pay off big, or blow up in their faces. My view is that the odds of it blowing up in their faces are much greater than the odds of the MWC becoming a BCS conference.

Re: Bennett Threatens To Drop TCURE: does CUSA lose their conference status and their automatic bid to the NCAA tournament?
Right, I think it would be for one year the C-USA would lose their auto-bid to the NCAA basketball tourney. [ 11-06-2003, 07:35 AM: Message edited by: The PonyGrad ] Go Ponies!!

Re: Bennett Threatens To Drop TCUEast - very good post - I agree with everything you said. i would add also, that TCU might not mind if, as they ponder, the CUSA figures out how to sweeten the pot (waive any remaining entrance fees, scheduling etc.. Also - Bennett did the right thing to introduce doubt into the continuation of the SMU/TCU game - their fans may [deleted] about SOS, but the game saves them moeney and helps them counter the recruiting question of how can I see my little Johnny play ball at away games if they are always 1,500 miles away? Don't rule out a little whining followed by a payoff to TCU.
