Jones is by far my top choice of the three. Then Coker. Then Fran, if only because there's nobody else to put ahead of him.

When is the Sugar Bowl (if, in fact, Jones is Steve-O's guy)? Crap, we're tired of waiting. Jones would be a home run, and it's awfully hard to say someone with Coker's record - and championship ring - would be a bad hire.

I want to talk recruiting, dammit, not read a bunch of whining about coaches.

Thank god for the women's basketball team.

I have felt that SO has been after Jones for a while now. Jones will probably stop by SMU on his way back from his game in New Orleans.

Maybe Jones wants to make some money now. He turned down the HC job for the San Diego Chargers to take the Hawaii job. He's probably accomplished all he can at Hawaii. UCLA s not payng as much as SMU and I doubt Hawaii has money to match SMU for coaches salaries and faclities.

I have posted these articles before re: Hawaii's facilities, etc.:

"There is so much that needs to be done, from renovations of deplorable Cooke Field to completion of coaches' offices to upgrades of the locker rooms. Aside from renovations and repairs, we need to pay our coaches what they are worth and we need to provide an adequate recruiting budget to ensure success in future years."

http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/apps/ ... 001/NEWS01

"ESPN came down and criticized us for the kind of facilities we have," Chang said. “We have players that are trying to recruit their friends to come over to Hawaii and avoid the facilities because they're pretty much ashamed of it. The athletics department itself needs the money for their facilities and they should keep it within their budget.â€

Okay, let me get this straight. We have three possible coaches in Coker and Fran, and we are possibly waiting on JJ to complete his bowl game before we interview him.

What's wrong with this picture?

What would be the incentive for JJ to come here? Coker and Fran, we waited all this time for this [deleted]? Coker or Fran. JJ ain't coming, so we waited all this time for Coker or Fran.

I will not believe it until I see it. Orsini cannot be this big of an idiot. I can believe SMU only being able to attract Coker or Fran, but I thought the Mob Boss was a MOBB BOSS?

This completely makes us look like we a freaking idiots. I say revamp the entire admin and faculty. Post every job at SMU and let's change this idiotic/non athletic culture.

I have said it several times but I will say it again, we suck!

I don't know if Jones will leave or not, but he may be ready for a change and a new challenge. Anyway, I thought the following (from the forward of his new book) was interestng:

Destiny only happens once. You can't have it twice. A very long post for nothing. He aint coming and we should not bring in Coker or Fran. What a freaking waste of time. One thing I can say about Orsini is that he stuck to his guns reagarding hiring a HC and not some OC or DC. We need someone that can run a program and its assistants. PB had not offensive knowledge what so ever.

If...and this is a very big if...June Jones is indeed who SO is waiting for, I am pretty sure he isn't waiting without some fairly substantial interest having been shown from Jones through his agent. The interview would be mostly a formality as by this point all the details should have been worked out...once again through his agent.

I agree 100%. SO would not have waited this long if there was not some indication he could get JJ. Probably got into full swing after the PJ mess. I don't think he would jump into this without a strong belief that this is a doable thing. I don't know what Hawaii will counter with but SMU should surpass it. If your going to go 10-12 m $ for a good coach, pass the hat again for a great coach. A few other things to consider. JJ will want his assistants taken care of. When he got a $100,000.00 raise he gave to his assistant coaches. He is apparently friends will Jerry Glanville who for whatever reason had some good things to say about SMU after the 95-21 game with UH. (or some bad things about UH). I think this leak may blow things up though. Don't know how it got out, but leaves JJ in an awkward position with more than a week to go before the game. As far as recruiting. If JJ is hired, what problem? NO PROBLEM.

There have been rumors about JJ coming to SMU for a while now. When JJ's name was associated with the UCLA job, he made an announcement stating otherwise. So far, he has not denied the SMU rumors.

In addition, he has NO CONTRACT with Hawaii for next season, how can he even recruit for them. Who wants to come to a school where the coach is not even under contract for the next year? Schools usually keep their HC under contract at least four years out in order to give their recruits confidence.

He seems like a good guy:

Glanville had things to say about the Ponies when he became HC of the Falcons and beat Pardee's Oilers (whom he previously coached). Something to the effect of "this game ball's for those kids at SMU," and he went on about how Pardee hung 95 on a team of freshmen.

For those that don't about the Glanville connection to JJ. Glanville was D coord. for Hawaii last yr.

Glanville and JJ go further back than that. It was more like Jones was his QB coach when "Gary"(old cowboys fans will get that) was the Coach of the Oilers.

I agree leaks can kill deals. Does anyone think for a moment that if ESPN had not leaked the Les Myles to Michigan story right before the SEC championship game, that he would have stayed at LSU?
