You are a truly special kind of stupid. Do you think these players outweigh the potential gains of getting a quality coach? Look, I realize your manlove for Rivals borders on illegality, but use what little common sense you have. We would not have been able to recruit a class that would have been any higher than the bottom 1/4 of all college teams, I don't care what you say. This coaching search is bigger than one recruiting class.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Stallion wrote:If we bring in a new Coach who has never recruited Texas then the coming January deadlines should already be causing immediate action. Its going to take a week to 10 days to hire a Staff. No Coach has seriously been recruiting for this program since about early October-that's about 3 months. These recruits have moved on. This delay is presently affecting the ability of SMU to hit the road running in January especially if its an out of state Coach and Staff. Recruiting is essentially over a week before signing date. You can't bring in new coaches to a new region for a school that hasn't been actively recruiting for 3 months and expect any results in about the 14 remaining recruiting days which have any real significance-the last weekend is for leftovers and walkons.
Get over it.
These recruits you are so worried about:
1) were not all going to sign with SMU
2) can't be making their decision to come to SMU based on the coach as they were talking to one who had an 11-52 record
3) might not even be considered / offered from the new coach

and hiring a Football Coach is bigger than one lost, clueless AD who can't accomplish what every AD in the modern history of College Football has accomplished. Orsini's actions are well outside a reasonable standard of care for ADs-bordering on incompetence. There is no comparison to any Coaching Search in History. This just does not happen especially when qualified candidates were ready, willing and able to take this job on December 1. SMU will suffer a Steve Orsini Recruiting Probation for 4-5 years and this guy shows no sign of even realizing his mistake by getting a Coach and Staff ready to roll by the second week of January.

Talk about over-reaction. A 4-5 year recruiting probation period? Of course you're taking into account variables like actual win/loss record as well right? Of course you are. You're Stallion! Seriously I love your posts though. Keep bringing the pain.

Good post SMU89
There is so much utter pants being spouted on this board. If we get the best out of the kids here, and that is ALL about the coaching, we will be better off even if it takes us a few years to start bringing in really good recruits.
Like I've said before, fundamentals can make up for a lot of athletic ability. As an example, proper tackling would have stopped Forte and we would have beaten Tulane. Easily.

At SMU, even benchwarmers are around for 4-5 years. A poor recruiting class most definitely, without question can affect your program for at least 4-5 years until you get the benchwarmers out of your program.

First of all I know little of this recruiting business but I have a question.
ESPN reports about 40 or so kids who are "considering" SMU. What does that mean? Have they all jumped ship?
Is someone seriously trying to tell me that a kid who is "considering SMU" on the understanding that PB was coach, will no longer be considering SMU when someone like Fran is announced?
Get a grip people. If we sign a good, well known coach, we will get better recruits than we would have with PB, and next year, when we are bowl bound, will be better.
Negativity is just being scared to be wrong, and being negative in a condescending manner is just pathetic.

What date was Ron Meyer hired? January "what" 1976? He did pretty well while he was here.

Once again a hypothetical. I've listed 8 players all of which were closely considering SMU(I wouldn't have listed them if they were not) but who have made other plans. A good recruiter like Franchione could have made significant progress. A good recruter could come up with a WR corp of about 4 WRs who have potential pro potential like Todd Graham did up at Tulsa last year-it was THE difference in a Championship season. Took about FOUR DAYS for Tulsa to make that hire. That's how important recruiting can be. Keep babbling about a topic you know ZERO about moron.

Not for 4 years. It takes time for a rebuild.
