"You're right. And since I've never been President of the
US I cannot criticize one. .....It is all so clear now" Who said anyone could not criticize? Plus if it's ok to criticize, then is it not ok to "criticize those that criticize"? Or do you prefer a "one way street"? Sure the guy that has never been elected dog catcher can criticize the President of the United States all he wants. Alot of teenagers think their parents are morons.......so what? Infants scream like hell and think the doctor is terrible when the Doctor sticks a needle in their arm to inoculate them. Yes any piehole can criticize "from the dark" when they dont know the whole story. But hey I knew you'd be right there with them, I 've noticed you're also afflicted with "doom & gloom" disease. C-ya @ Milos!
That's realism, not doom & gloom, sunshiner. Although I'm reserving judgement on the Orsini coach hiring situation until the coach is announced.
Here, Possi Possi Possi - princess of the Polyannas. Here little Possi... ![]()

Although I'm reserving judgement on the Orsini coach hiring situation until the coach is announced. yeah thats real brave....."beach & moan" the whole way then when something good happens well "I reserved judgement".....LOL talk about "covering your bases!" when Orsini kicks [deleted] you can run for cover under the "i reserved judgement" but the 3 Stooges wont be able to. ![]() C-ya @ Milos!
And when Tenuta or 2-month-late Fran is hired you will be saying "Yay!" and "Hooray!" - perfect hire - or otherwise trying to convince others that Orsini made lemonade out of lemons. ![]()
What are your qualifications to criticize others for questioning Orsini?
How many conference champions have you hired? How many Div 1 stadiums have you got built? How many hundreds of millions have you raised for an athletic program? If you're going to question the folks who question Orsini, I'm going to question the ones who don't.
You are overlooking all that Possi has accomplished. It is no small feat to continually convince his band of pollyannas that the sun is still shining despite 20 years of rain. Here little Possi... ![]()
I haven't really been 'beach & moan'ing, just injecting some reality when people get too worked up about coaches like Johnson or Jones. As far as covering my bases - I'll go on record now that any hire that doesn't have head coaching experience at the college or NFL level is a failure hire, period. People like June Jones who do not have experience recruiting to a situation anything like SMU (academic standards, intolerance of behavioral issues, etc etc) are an unknown. If wanting a coach with a proven track record in our situation, even if he is a sleezebag that will leave in 3 years, instead of an UNPROVEN like Jones makes me a doom&gloomer, then so be it. SMU has not produced anything but doom & gloom since I've been a fan. I think I have the odds on my side.
To be honest, I doubt there is any coach out there that has recruited under the SMU guidelines other than the ones we have already fired. Fran, however, would definitely have better Texas ties which would help.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
What are your qualifications to criticize others for questioning Orsini?
No qualifications, just reality. But reality is a pretty good teammate How many conference champions have you hired? Just like them and unlike Orsini....NONE! How many Div 1 stadiums have you got built? Just like them and unlike Orsini.....NONE! How many hundreds of millions have you raised for an athletic program? Just like them and unlike Orsini.....NONE Thanks for helping me make my case! If you're going to question the folks who question Orsini, I'm going to question the ones who don't. Yes please do.....fire away....I will be more than happy to repeat why I don't question Orsini. Mainly and again it is REALITY.....REALITY is: we dont know the whole story. I don't sit back not knowing anywhere near the whole picture and take pot shots at a guy with a proven track record in these kind of endeavors. There is a big difference......I am not pretending I know more than Orsini about athletic administration.... they are! NEXT? C-ya @ Milos!
"People like June Jones who do not have experience recruiting to a situation anything like SMU (academic standards, intolerance of behavioral issues, etc etc) are an unknown"
So you are unconvinced that SMU hiring June Jones who is 12-0, in the Top Ten of all college football, and is playing in a New Year's Day BCS Bowl is not a HUGE UPGRADE from where we have been hiring Cavans/Bennetts over the last decade or more? C-ya @ Milos!
No. Clearly he is a huge upgrade. That doesn't mean he is the best available coach for the situation at SMU. We simply do not know if Jones can recruit high level talent to SMU. The type of player he has recruited is very very different from what SMU has allowed in the past. Does this mean that June Jones WON'T be able to come here, change his recruiting strategy, and get us to top 25 in a couple years? No. We have no idea if he will.
Exactly. The admin loves people like you who don't question anything. This is why we are in the shape we are in. Copeland also had a great track record before he came to SMU. ![]()
No. Clearly he is a huge upgrade.
OMG.......hip hip hooray!....We agree on something! That doesn't mean he is the best available coach for the situation at SMU. And it doesn't mean he isn't the best available. Again we don't know all the facts. However if ten people were doing the hiring, we might get 10 differennt coaches. "The best available coach" is not subjective is it? We simply do not know if Jones can recruit high level talent to SMU. The type of player he has recruited is very very different from what SMU has allowed in the past. And you could say the exact same thing about Jimmy Johnson and Bob Stoops. C-ya @ Milos!
Here is how I weigh in on this debate "between darkness and light."
If Copeland was still here, I might lean toward the doom & gloomers, three wisemen etc..... but thank Doak he is not here. If you read Steve Orsini's resume, he is a get it done guy. At UCF he raised 270 million dollars for a new football stadium, basketball arena, and other new facilities. And he hired George O'Leary that lead them to 10 wins and a CUSA Championship this year. Here at SMU Steve has......... Hired Matt Doherty. Built a 13 million dollar basketball facility. Million dollar scoreboard for Moody. New floor at Moody. With more renovations being planned. Created 2 new positions for recruiting only. Created 2 new strength coaches positions for football. Created a new position for a team nutritionist. Increased football marketing by $775,000. In three weeks raised 10-12 million dollars for a new coach. Not bad for only 18 months on the job! I'm in sales and marketing, so it's in my nature to see the glass "half full", but that's each person's choice in life. There are a large number of folks on this board that know me, and know my wife. Those folks can understand why I'm an advocate of, ask the prettiest girl first........sometimes she say's yes!
