Uh, if I was really Steve Orsini, do you think I'd be wasting my time reading and posting on this board?
It's just bothers me that you guys have such a propensity to eat your own.
Why don't you just sit back and watch...and then, when all the facts are in, decide whether Orsini and Vaught (and Ford and Sewell, for that matter) came through for us or not.

well, it would probably at least make us feel better knowing what SO is up to.
Really, I'm getting tired of the "SO's really really busy with a big decision to make." Who of us isn't really really busy? Don't most business owners/CFOs/COOs make similar decisions all the time? For crying out loud.
It would be nice to be wrong, but I have a hard time buying that SMU is soooooooooo unique that it takes twice as long as the previously longest head coaching search anyone has a memory of. Not to mention the recruiting implications we've gone round and round addressing.

I hope and pray you are correct on this as otherwise, they don't look so smart.

Pissed is too strong of an emotion to attribute to my post but you are right, my memory was incorrect: SMU is 1-1 against Tulane since 2005, I'll make a note in my first post. I'm just frustrated by the fact that sometimes SMU/staff seems more interested in maintaining our good guy image than actually being competitive. The Tulane hospitality was certainly over-and-above and I don't doubt that it definitely felt at the time like the right thing to do and it brought a lot of positive feelings towards us. That being said, SMU hasn't tasted the post season in 20 years and we should be hungry for all the athletes we can get, especially in dealing with a critical conference/division rival that's a must win for us year in and year out.
I know all these coaches know each other, are friends and this is just part of the business...but I kinda wish we wouldn't go out of our way to help a coach that spurned us build his staff with our honest recommendations.

Actually we are 1-2 against Tulane since Katrina, both of our losses being at home (2005 and 2007). I was at all three games and remember them vividly, especially the only win in New Orleans at the Superdome.

Nice guys of loser college football
Can we all agree now to stop giving people credit for being nice and start demanding wins? I think this "search" has now taken long enough to start changing the mentality around here. We can now hire a coach and will do so within the next 200 days. Happy new year.

It's a new year. Make resolutions. Hire a new coach.
Change your screen name.

What if the new coach we hire is named Phil and he doesn't like him, either? Or, worse, what if we are forced to beg PB to come back?
EDIT: Or, maybe he is a big Tennessee fan...

No one can or should expect for a big decision such as this to not come without its armchair quarterbacks. While some of the speculation and banter on this board can be maddening, it shows that there are people who actually give a rat's [deleted] about this program - even without a bowl appearance since the Reagan administration.
Oh, and by the way, apparently SO or someone in his employment does pay attention to this board based on his own blog entries.
