What is the problem with some of you ???Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower How can anyone be happy with the way things are going? This has been a spectacular failure. We can still do the best we can with where we are at, but you are delusional if you think we are in a good position now. We have effectively destroyed an entire year of recruiting and are the laughing stock of college football (keeping the status quo there).
Orsini had a task that takes most AD's weeks to accomplish. Orsini is doing a bad job. There is no way around this. Thinking this does not make someone hate SMU. This does not make someone a doom and gloomer (whatever people call it). I want Orsini to be good at his job. But so far he has been terrible.
And what is that reason??? And weren't you saying the same thing about the new UCLA coach at one point?
Again, I have said numerous times that landing Jones now would save this from being a disaster. What other "big-name" coaches are you talking about?
For the record, I wish I could be like Beanman and Insane_Pony_Posse.
And I actually think that Steve Orsini does know what he's doing for the most part...I think he understands the handicaps SMU has in this search. That may be the source of his statement regarding having to do a "proper search". But I agree with jtstang. Foregoing a recruiting class in the as yet frustrating effort of obtaining a coach is not good, no matter how one cuts it. But again, I don't believe the delay is an issue borne of Orsini. I think it is borne of Dr. Turner. And frankly, if indeed I am correct, then Turner is the guy with explaining to do, not Orsini, if Jones shops SMU for a better deal after making SMU wait. One quick point about UCLA - it's a crap job. They underpay their coaches and their facilities aren't all they are cracked up to be. So after not giving the coach and team very much up front, the fan base then turns around and wonders why you can't contend in a tough conference every season.
I am greatful that SO has the gutz to ignore all of the nay sayers on this site and elsewhere, and shoot high. Anyone can atain mediocracy, but I do not think that that should be what SMU accepts. We have done that for too long.
Where oh where is Hayden Fry
I agree that this is not a failure just by Orsini, but of the entire Athletic Department and Dr. Turner. 70 days or whatever the exact number is or searching for a coach is unacceptable. It should be unacceptable to all SMU fans.
Are you also "greatful" that he pays you $12 an hour to dust the cases for the trophies from decades past? Geaux MUSTANGS! Geaux Tigers!
Cheap shots w/o base are why no one takes this board seriously. simple negativity requires little thought and accomplishes nothing. Where oh where is Hayden Fry
Sorry. The cheap shot was not warranted. It just amazes me why you have such blind trust in the athletic department when Lucy has pulled the football on this program each and every time for the last 20 years AND the evidence is overwhelming that it is happening once again. Geaux MUSTANGS! Geaux Tigers!
Nope, you have me confused with someone else. I have been pretty neutral on the coaches with baggage. I have pointed out on a number of occasions that it is obvious that there are some in the administration who do have problems with these coaches. I do, however, find it interesting that no one has chased after these coaches or made them offers with the exception of Neuheisel. Speaking of Neuheisel, from some sports news outlet report referenced here recently, it would appear that we were pursuing him as the report said he had been holding off SMU while he waited to see if UCLA would offer. His and Frans' baggage seem to be the least offensive to the admin. Bowdens biggest wart is the length of time he has been away from coaching...plus whatever dirty secret is lurking out there that we don't know about.
