The thing I found interesting about this post was the following:

Steinberg, who will arrive in Dallas late tonight, said while Jones and SMU athletic director Steve Orsini have had direct discussions, they are looking forward to visiting "face-to-face with the SMU community."

What exactly does this mean? It would seem to me that "the SMU community" would be more inclusive than, say, President Turner, Steve Orsini, Gerald Ford, and Carl Sewell. I woulds think that "visiting face-to-face with the SMU community" means that there will be an announcement/press conference of some sort. Maybe I'm taking it out of context. Still, I think Steinberg's wording, if Kate quoted him correctly (and if she didn't, she shouldn't be allowed to be a working member of the press), is worth looking at.

I can track Santa's flight next year....that way we can make sure all our kids are safe and happy! There is no truth to the rumors of Santa being a terrorist......thank you may return to stalking Mr. Jones.......

The fact that Coach Jones has received that counter offer and did not accept a deal shows Hawaii still can't get everything done the way JJ thinks it needs to be and he is looking to make a change....As others have said the key here now is JJ is going to make sure, the model here concerning admissions, has changed to a point where he can get the athletes we need in school.

Yeah, seems very strange to offer a second counter-offer withing 24 hours. Although, the salaries there apparently come partially from the state and partially from boosters, so maybe this was just the boosters pulling together some additional funding or some sort of guarantee from the legislature about the facility improvements.

I think we are all missing the biggest clue. Steinberg is coming to Dallas. Agents don't travel with their clients for a visit. They are there to negotiate and finalize paperwork. This thing should be done tomorrow.
