Our offense actually put up quite a bit of points last year. Unfortunately the other teams put up an astonishing amount.

The WR position may need some tending to. We have an athletic, prolific scorer in 6'1 Emmanuel Sanders, an absolute barn-burned in FR Aldrick Robinson, and a surprise performer in Zach Zimmerman.

Couple of things about the Run & Shoot... it isn't the spread offense. In other words, the QB doesn't do a lot of running. The ability to scramble when everything breaks down is nice, but the ideal QB is in the 6'3"-6'4" range, with an above average arm that is highly accurate. He also needs to be very smart and able to read defenses quickly.

As far as WR's go, size isn't important in this offense. Some of the best R&S WR's have been small. Think Earnest Givens, Terrance Mathis in the NFL and look at Davone Bess and Ryan Grice-Mullen at Hawaii. All are in the 5'10"-5'11" or shorter range and none weigh more than 185.

WR's need to be smart too as they'll be reading the defense with the QB. Quickness is something highly desired and the ability to create yards after the catch is a must. It seems that JJ always has had one WR in the 6'2" or taller range, like Heywood Jeffries in Houston and Jason Rivers at Hawaii. The taller WR's are usually the X WR.

Well we ain't got no 6-3, 6-4 quarterbacks I don't think. We'll show up anyway.

Yes, but JJ hasn't ever recruited in Texas either. He'll find his guy...

Houston's Manny Hazard (under 6') had 1,689 receiving yards in 1989 with 142 catches.

He's been working with a recruiting budget of $50,000 per year in Hawaii. I'm sure yours is significantly higher. Plus he had lots of kids who wanted to go to Hawaii and play in his system, but their parents didn't want their kids so far from home. That shouldn't be a problem in Texas.

Dr. Death, just out of curiosity. What's the deal with the bolds and color changes?

LOL... Surprised it took this long for someone to ask... LOL Typically I'll bold someone's name... the colors usually are the team/school colors... and to me, it makes it easier to read. Reading posts... especially long ones... all in the same color etc... it's like hearing a boring talker give a speech. I just like how the bold/colors break things up. Hopefully it doesn't bother anyone.

Surely you jest. Phil, bless his heart, does not know how to adjust his schemes to fit his personnel. If JJ needs a new DC, go find Schumann...he Knows how to get the most out of the players he has.

Actually, I sort of like it. It adds emphasis.

I think I like the colorized version of the posts. It's kind of like Ted Turner came in and spruced up the posts.

Thank you Dr. Death for adding some good insight on our board.

Be aware though . . . anything you post, can and will be printed in the Dallas Morning News.
