What I dont get is how letting in 30 football players with subpar academic credentials will ruin the university. It has only continued to be increasingly difficult to get in to SMU and can you imagine what would happen to the application #s if we had a big-time footb all team??? SMU could pick and choose from THOUSANDS of apllications for each spot in an incoming class.
Give Jones what he wants. Give SMU what it needs. Sign June Jones at all costs.
as long as there is a press conference TOMORROW to announce either Jones or Fran, I will be pleased.
It has to do with deck chairs, ice and poi flavored Kool-aid.
Full Steam Ahead!
Do you need anymore ice? Let me help you arrange those deck chairs.
You forgot to footnote Model. Seriously, it is more important that the changes to the Model get made than who the Head Coach is. I'd be disappointed if Jones sees problems with the Model. Rather have the Model changed with Jones as Coach even if I didn't think he was the best fit.
If this is true, it shouldn't come as a surprise to many people. I am disappointed if the admin won't give him what he wants, within reason. June Jones is his own man, who is used to doing what he wants most of the time. Oh boy...
I think that the hold up is that he wants an extra $70,000 for a special teams coach, and we don't have that in the budget.
Agreed.
That's baloney...
I really, really doubt there is any snag at all, but for sure nothing relating to anything to do with admissions or academics. Do you really think we would pay $2 million per year for a guy to come here with his hands tied behind his back. No frigging way. Whoever started this thread is dead wrong.
I'm starting to think that if a university wants to be competitive on a big-time level, it needs leadership with its background in a big-time level.
Could Lubbock Christian U & its status as the second tier school of higher education in its own city be what is holding us back in our quest to reshape the model? When Pye came here from Duke, they had no recent success in athletics either. Orsini came from ND. Would it be different if our president was from a big-time school? How did things progress at Miami after Shalala (sp?) came along?
Can't disagree with that at all. The sticking point must be the JUCO transfers. I see the administration being unwilling to budge on that one because it would have to be a school-wide change. They may be willing to give a little bit on accepting transfer credits, but I don't ever see them letting junior college transfer credits count--especially at a school that has tougher AP credit standards than the Ivy League and Northwestern.
