SMU/Denton Community College working on continued series

Ugh. Why do we have to legitimize UNT by playing them? We need to avoid playing them for a few years until there is no chance of them beating us. To have them even play us close can only hurt our recruiting. We must work to destroy and humiliate them.

get ready for some five hour games. I don't have a problem playing them. If OU can, we can too.

It's all well and good as long as we crush them.

I like putting them in their place on an annual basis. Even a Bennett-led team beat them last year.

nothing wrong with continuing this series. should alternate UNT and Baylor and set it up to where when we play TCU at home, we play either UNT or Baylor at their place. In years when we go to Ft Worth, either UNT or Baylor comes to Ford. That's just good "local" scheduling

I had no idea you were so terrified to play us. If you want nothing but guaranteed wins, I suggest you guys move to Div-III. I think over there you might break .500... Someday.

We're not even comparable to OU. They are in a BCS conference and we are not. Except every once in awhile, their conference schedule will be much more competitive than ours. They can afford to schedule a cupcake or two, although I wonder if the Mich-App St outcome will make some of these top tier schools think twice about that. Plus, recruits don't want to play Texas State and UNT. We need a better non-conf schedule to attract recruits. That is the difference between SMU and Baylor. A recruit will look at our schedules and pick Baylor 9 times out of 10 because of the exposure. That might change if we are winning 9 to 10 games a year and Baylor is still in the Big 12 cellar. We already play a relatively cupcake schedule and need to add some competition to our non-conf schedule. We should look to re-establish former SWC rivalries (TCU and Baylor should be on the schedule every year with ATM, UT, TT thrown in every once in awhile) and establish some new rivalries (Vandy and Ole Miss, Navy, and even Notre Dame or the like). There is no upside to playing the UNT's and Texas State's of the football world. If you win, it was expected and if you lose, it's an "unmitigated disaster" (to use the words of one poster describing our coaching search).

When we came back from the death penalty in 89, I know of quite a few players who were willing to come to SMU because they would get the exposure of playing UT and NOtre Dame, among others.
