I've hated the Frogs for over 40 years, but guys (and gals) I doubt very much if we would have ever addressed our faults if William and Mary was in Fort Worth instead of TCU. I hope this is the last time I have to admit that they showed us the way, now it is our turn to lead!
Good luck with all that...
stallion, i hope i don't hear any criticism of low graduation rates, do i? for my money, we've been top 25 in graduate rates for a long time, let someone else take that title from us...actually, I'd like for us to graduate everyone we bring in, even if it's in a PE major, just as long as they leave more educated than when they got here.
We'll certainly be competing against the Frogs for defensive players and perhaps offensive linemen. Given their run oriented offense, I don't see them competing as hard with us for the skill offense positions like QB, wide-outs and TE.
I suspect that Baylor, TT, UTEP, Tulane, UH, Rice, Tulsa all had some recruiting indigestion when the hiring was announced.
Right on, baby!!!! (As a reminder, Mack Brown backed out of playing June Jones in Hawaii not too long ago, citing economic factors. ![]()
I wouldn't say great program, although I would say solid. Do you really think that there will be that much crossover in our recruiting? We have a ball control offense and rely on great defensive play to win games. Jones on the other hand works that run and shoot offense, and has more of a score, score, score type of gameplan. I think this is a great move for the Ponies, but geez, why you gotta try to knock the other local guy down? It is better for football in the area if both TCU and SMU have winning programs, it sure would engender more support. A good start would be to double your win total from last year. ![]()
June Jones was hired to turn around our football program. He wasn't hired to turn around our graduation rate. If the administration truly hired him to turn the program around, then we have to accept some kids that may not be headed to Yale law school or Harvard Medical School. I am willing to accept that for a winning program. And hopefully we can start competing for some of those borderline academic players that we have passed over in the past. That may or may not compete with other Texas schools. One can suspect that it will. Also, Jones may pull from other areas of recruiting potential (West Coast, Pacific Rim, etc.). That may leave the other Texas schools without any fear of SMU recruiting. The soonest we will know about June and recruiting will be the signing class of 2009. And we will be able to tell what the administration has actually done to improve recruiting.
Re: JJ will gut Baylor and TCU recruiting
And BTW, this year I am setting the over/under at 0- and taking the under
Interesting. Hadn't really thought about it in that way.
While I have a hatred for TCU, I do want them to continue to succeed so that when we beat them it is that much sweeter!!
Sports, and all that implies.
uhhhh, guys...TCU has done enough recently on the field to carry the chip on their collective shoulders. They have recruited and developed their kids more effectively than SMU...it has been borne out on the field against us and other teams, including BCS schools. Good enough to be in the Big 12 ? Ask Baylor.
Beating TCU for selected athletes will be a start at beating them on Saturday. I will be intensely interested to see how this "level competitive field" is applied to admissions. P.S....run the score up on them when the situation presents itself...we have a few years of payback to account for. stable-boy for the four horsemen of the apocalypse
2nd or 3rd game of the year. can't remember if we get TCU or go to TT first. (after TxSt of course) Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
