You can call me a European-American. Though my ancestors have been in this country more than 7 generations.

This according to Wikepedia:

Perceptions and connotations

[edit]American English
Controversy surrounds connotations of the term in American English. (See also American and British English differences.) According to Abdurrahman R. Squires, "politically correct terms have taken the place of the word 'Orientalism'". [2]
While a number of reference works used in the United States describe Oriental as pejorative, antiquated or offensive in some instances, the American Heritage Book of English Usage notes that
It is worth remembering, though, that Oriental is not an ethnic slur to be avoided in all situations. It is most objectionable in contemporary contexts and when used as a noun, as in "the appointment of an Oriental to head the commission". In these cases Asian (or a more specific term such as Vietnamese, Korean, or Asian American, if appropriate) is the only acceptable term. But in certain historical contexts, or when its exotic connotations are integral to the topic, Oriental remains a useful term.[3]

Just an FYI, Oriental applies to objects and Asian applies to people.

Then how do you distinguish east asians from other 'asian' people, like indians, arabs, caucasians west western asia, etc? I don't think 'mongoloid' is a PC term anymore either.

Whoa, easy there. "East asian" works very well to distinguish from those from the subcontinent. Those from Mongolia are referred to as Mongolian. I don't believe there is a specific term to distinguish the people from countries on the subcontinent as a seperate entity from Middle Easterners and East Asians. They are usually just referred to by country--Indian, Pakistani, Afghani etc.

Please do not place my honorable people in the same category as those thieving Koreans.

MustangLaxer is correct.

Try calling Asians 'Orientals' out here in Southern California.

You come across as either a racist or a simpleton…pick your poison.

Just to bring the back to the original topic:

This forum has welcomed me and for that I'm also a SMU fan, and that's for life. I'm still a loyal Warrior fan, but I will cheer my heart out for SMU, and I can't wait to see that spread offense destroying Texas!

We are glad to have some new blood around here, homewrecker. I am stuck by how many new posters we have had and how many have stuck around to inform us on JJ and the Hawaii program. It sure is better than us beating up on ourselves all the time.

I concur. I also think we should have a ponyfans.com sponsored trip out to watch a Hawaii game firsthand next season (I am thinking leave tuesday, return on sunday night's redeye). That would be a quality use of all that "extra cash" that's been rolling in....no?
It tastes better when served from a Bowl (game)!
