Despite some oppositon by certain conferences and the Knight Commission, here is an update on the interest of a Playoff for Bowl Subdivision (1A) schools:

How many years will this take to get implemented? The BCS bigwigs are not going down without a fight that much I can promise you.

Can't see why the MAC, WAC, MWAC, SUNBELT, CUSA, and the Independents don't just agree on a format for a play off and declare a national champion. You might get the SEC and ACC on board. Force the big conferences to play along or they don't get to be NCAA D1 Champions.

Perhaps when hell freezes over, too.
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

Because if the ACC and SEC don't get on board, we've essential demoted ourselves from any chance at competing for any of the national publicity or any of the BCS money.

Since the Knight Commision is not on board with a playoff does that mean CUSA and Pres. Turner are against a playoff as well?

because a playoff only works if tied in with the sponsorship dollars of the bowls. most of the bowls that the MAC/WAC/MWC/CUSA play in are tied to the lower qualifying BCS conf. teams. for example the Hawaii bowl which is a WAC team and a lower level Pac10 team.

the BCS teams tied to those bowls won't go for it, and the bowls won't do it b/c that's how they are able to sell their sponsorship b/c lower level BCS teams have a greater following than higher caliber (W/L only) teams.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

I think the Knight Commission's objections have to do with loss of school time. But if the tradeoff is one regular season game for a playoff system, they shouldn't object. As far as the mini-playoff by the Non-BCS teams, that would be paramount to a demotion and shouldn't be pursued. The hold-outs have been the Pac-10 and the Big Ten because they own the Rose Bowl. The PAC-10 has felt that its teams have been hosed several times in the BCS rankings, so they are beginning to rumble about whether the Rose Bowl is worth the hosing their teams keep getting. But all you need is one BCS conference to defect to supporting a playoff and the Division 1-A football committee would have enough votes to pass a playoff format and essentially say to the BCS here it is, do you want to leave the NCAA? But in reality, I think the 1-A committee would want at least all of the BCS conferences save one or two to sign on to the playoff before ramming it down their throats. My guess is that the fear of the mid-major conferences is that they'll get left out of a four team playoff. Their optimum desire would be a 16 team playoff with all of the champions from all of the Division 1-A conferences in them.

Current BCS system is in place through 2009 season so no change would be for at least two more years...it is possible that something will have broken by then

I know the Big Ten (why they continue to use Ten when there are really Eleven teams blows my mind. I understand tradition, but the Big 8 didn't keep the 8 when they became the Big 12) is a huge opponent of a playoff. There was an article several months ago about the overall influence that the Big 10 commish has in college football. Apprently, he is a very influential player in the grand scheme of things.

Again, just repeating what I read.

I just can't believe that there are still teams out there other than Ohio State that don't want this.
