I think this is a case of the writer or editor being either ignorant of Dallas/SMU or the definition of "bucolic".

There is no way I would use that word to describe anything within the Dallas city limits.

Great article otherwise.

Bucolic is synonymous with "Georgian", which accurately describes the architecture at SMU

Although there is a certain pastoral sense to the word, bucolic can also mean "picturesque." Not a bad choice.

AND YES, I HAVE NO LIFE!!

Any chance you could provide a reference for this? I certainly would not want to use a word incorrectly and have not seen it used in the manner you suggest.

Not really a big deal, but the definitions I have always known of bucolic were: rustic, pastures, relating to shepherds, or simple life.

Here was one site's take on the word:

bu·col·ic
adj.
1. Of or characteristic of the countryside or its people; rustic. See Synonyms at rural.
2. Of or characteristic of shepherds or flocks; pastoral.
n.
1. A pastoral poem.
2. A farmer or shepherd; a rustic.

Noun 1. bucolic - a country person, peasant, provincial
cottar, cotter - a peasant farmer in the Scottish Highlands
moujik, mujik, muzhik, muzjik - a Russian peasant (especially prior to 1917)
rustic - an unsophisticated country person

2. bucolic - a short poem descriptive of rural or pastoral life
eclogue, idyl, idyll
pastoral - a literary work idealizing the rural life (especially the life of shepherds)

Adj. 1. bucolic - (used with regard to idealized country life) idyllically rustic; "a country life of arcadian contentment"; "a pleasant bucolic scene"; "charming in its pastoral setting"; "rustic tranquility"
arcadian, pastoral

rural - living in or characteristic of farming or country life; "rural people"; "large rural households"; "unpaved rural roads"; "an economy that is basically rural"

2. bucolic - relating to shepherds or herdsmen or devoted to raising sheep or cattle; "pastoral seminomadic people"; "pastoral land"; "a pastoral economy"
pastoral

If the above is correct, it would not necessarily be the most flattering description with regard to SMU IMO. If you could somehow pull picturesque out of the above definitions as someone else suggested, then that definitely works.

am i the only person who has a problem with the sentence "he raised revenue"

i get raising funds, or generating revenue, but raising revenue. doesn't sound right, but i don't have the time to go look up the grammatical reasoning.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

Not sure exactly how the reference to Polynesians fits with the article. It's not like he's still at Hawaii offering them a chance to reconnect with their heritage. Maybe he will be able to relate to them in a way other coaches cannot. The reference seemed kinda out of place.
I HATE the University of Texas!
