Since most of the people in the "Circle of Champions" consider 100k/yr pocket change, just getting to a bowl game would be worth it.
In 5 years or so and JJ retires, and we are at TCU level, maybe the CofC can spend 5 or 6 million/yr and get the best coach...... anywhere.

If Jones does what we want and expect, and if Jones retires from SMU, we will not have to pay as much for our next coach as we did for him.

Let the envy continue.
They could. AND, our $2MM didn't come from 20 individuals. it came from 20 sources. several of those who committed $100,000/yr for 5 years were groups of people (like 20 guys giving $5,000/yr)
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

No, they couldn't. Prove me wrong. You can't, therefore I'm right.

The light at the end of the tunnel for your school and others that play SMU is NOT the end of the tunnel.

Not so sure about that myself. As the saying goes "The rising tide lifts all boats." $2mm may seem like a lot for Jones now, but in 5 years, it may be mid-range and not top 15 pay for a D1 HC gig.

I meant to equate it to today's $$s, and conference. We had to pay big bucks to bring someone in to turn the graveyard into a fertile land development. If that is accomplished, the job will be an attractive one that will have suitors and we should not have to go trolling with the biggest bait available. Of course the best scenerio would be to gain entrance into a BCS conference in 5 years and then be more than willing to pay BCS bucks for a new BCS coach.

I think the point he was trying to get across is that with success, there will be more revenue from ticket sales, advertising sales, and more people will be donating to the Mustang Club. It will be an easier sell too.

He's saying that if June Jones is successful, this won't be a dead end job that you have to grossly overpay to get a good coach to take. Lest we forget, this was a dead end, coach killing job with no prospect for future improvement, no fan involvement, too much competition from other entertainment options, etc TWO WEEKS AGO. We had to blow away the typical pay scale to get someone here. If this is a consistent top 25 program in 5 years, we could more than likely hire a good coach at the prevailing market rate.
