BJ Lee looks like a freshman sensation. JJ is probably drawing up plays for the little speed-merchant at this very moment.
With SMU's obvious shortcomings on defense, 4 guys stand out to me. Jones & Odiari at linebacker, and Banjo & McElroy in the secondary. Throw S Rock Dennis (jc transfer lost last year to pre-season injury) in the mix and there is great potential here. Jordan Free looks like the real deal at OL and QB Bo Mitchell seems special. AJ Drewery looks a little like Randy Moss and Quincy Whittington will be at least as good as Arthur Whittington. Other gems as well. What a great class! Pony P-1
if i had the right amount of money, id pay him to come here. but the best recruit is EJ by far.
quincy will be "at least as good" as arthur w? wow! did you ever see arthur play? we won't have to worry about our offense. or maybe we should refrain from outlandish predictions. or maybe that's what this board is for. or........
The guys I'm most excited about are the linemen Emshoff and Free; LB Victor Jones and his "gear" as JJ puts it; Robert Parker at rush/outside backer; Taylor Thompson, obviously; DL Ellison; McElroy ought to bring immediate secondary help; Odiari too at LB; And, yes, Banjo at Safety
You're interested in Victor Jone's gear? Derail the Frogs!
Re: Best Recuit?
Ok, first of all I want to make sure we're all on the same page here. I have NO IDEA about how these players will stack up. I haven't seen any of them play, and I don't have access to any information that the rest of you don't. So this is just dumb guesswork put out there to kill time between the NFL pro-bowl and the Red and Blue game. QB- Bo Mitchell. He gets the nod by virtue of being JJ's Annointed one. From what I've read, Smith is a smart and accurate player, but he needs to get some more zip on his ball if he wants to make it at this level. Slot Reciever- This is going to be anyone's guess. They have brought in five guys to try at the position. You can't really just go by "Best size and Speed" since the fastest guy is the smallest, and I don't have a 40 time for the tallest guy. So lets just give it to Cole Beasely since he lives closest to me. Wide Receiver: E.J. Drewery is the only wideout on the list, but we'd be hard pressed to pick up a better prospect. I'd feel better if I knew why a guy with his stats flew under the radar, but having a 6'6 guy with a 33" verticle can't hurt. OL: I'll go with Jordon Free. Free had the most interests from Schools of any of our OL recruits, and there's usually a good reason for that. DL: This one is downright confounding. All but one of our DL recruits played HS ball in a different position. How can we tell if TE/LB Andrew Ellison will be a better DE than OG Evan Huahulu will be at DT? What about highly rated Thompson and Parker at DE? I like Thompson at the position if he can bulk up, but man, it's just a toss up isn't it? I don't want to be against any of these kids. But I think it will be between Taylor Thompson and Robert Parker LB: I would have put Robert Parker here, but from the looks of it he won't be playing there. So lets go ahead and give the nod to Alex Odiari by virtue of experience. DB: While I know that the Banjophile on the board will probably take this as a personal affront, I'm going with JuCo product Deyon McElroy. Again, this team needs experience and imediate help on defense, McElroy gives them that. So there you have it; one clueless fan's observations on how a bunch of new faces will fit into the Mustang Family. -CoS
It can lead and we can echo How lame would that be!?!!! Sir, shooting-star, sir.
