"The Ponies will venture to Annapolis on Oct. 25 to take on Navy. The game will be televised by CSTV. There has not been a time announced for kickoff. What a great time of year to go to Annapolis. Been there 3-4 times before and, if you're going to make on long trip with the Mustangs, this is the one. Great place and great place for a football game!"

The first game, which could be played before the Sept. 6th Texas State game, is waiting on a deal to be finalized by ESPN.

Word will be out in a couple of weeks.

By then we should know all of our schedule.

I came to this thread a little late, and I would just like to say that I have probably been to more Texas Tech games in the last 7 years than anyone on this board given I married an alum. I have worn SMU gear and cheered for SMU in the middle of a Texas Tech section every year we've been out there since I met my husband. I have never encountered the stories that circulate here. In following SMU on road games since 1990, I have witnessed SMU fans who are "classless" jackasses yelling profanities and directing insults to opossing fans. I have also witnessed other schools' fans being jackasses to perfectly well behaved Texas Tech fans on the road. On the other hand, I have also seen situations where visiting fans (including SMU fans) have either provoked or escalated bad behavior.

EVERY school has its classless fans, but they generally come from 1 of 2 populations: students who have been drinking a lot or people who never went to the school and have no other affiliation other than rooting for the team when they are doing well -- the t-shirt fans. It just so happens that state schools like Texas Tech have a lot more of both of those populations than SMU (and at least their drunk students actually go to the game). And unfortunately, most visiting team tickets are closer to the sections likely to have these groups in large numbers.

I am sorry that nasty behavior is discouraging people from going to the SMU game in Lubbock. Hopefully, 2 years ago was an anomalous spike in the bad behavior. The best policy when on the road, in my opinion, is to stay away from the student section if possible, cheer for your team, and don't instigate by taunting volatile home fans (even if you are correct about your own superiority, say, about TCU sucking), or at least calmly respond with something clever and biting that leaves them speechless. Don't sink to their level, whatever you do, or it is YOU who will be called out as classless on their message boards from here to eternity.

I know I'll be in Lubbock on September 13. And I'll be bringing my mom, if that's any indication of my comfort level. Now, where will I be the rest of the fall? I'm waiting on the slow-as-molasses Conf-USA officials to let me know.

DiamondM,
I agree that such behavior goes on eveywhere, and that such behavior should never stop a Mustang fan from attend a game in support of their team.

Two years ago I did witness the F U SMU chant. Every game we attend we are place usually in the corner next to the student section. It was hard to avoin at Tech two years ago. Soon after that game the Tech population began addressing that chant to try getting the student section to tone it down. They even made up t-shirts addressing the fact they needed to tone it down.

Bottom line, there are idiots out there at every game that try ruining it for all of us, the true football fan.
Keep goin'! Keep cheering! Keep having fun!
See you and your mom in Lubbock on September 13th.

F U SMU chant during our alma mater if I remember correctly.

That's classless.

Four groups can't be touched...the alma mater, children, the elderly, and nuns. For the rest, it's college football. If your under 18, go hit them in the face because the worst is they'll call your folks and send you home. If your over 18, and don't feel like going to court, go tell someone that will do something about it.

Otherwise yell something better back. Cmon now we've lost enough games to know by heart

Write a check, go to Tech.

Ho-ho-hey-hey, you're gonna work for us some day.

And to be completely honest, I enjoy being a drunken [deleted] to students from another school. Because one day I'll wake up and be older, responsible, sober, and can't do things like that. Course there are exceptions on when to and when not to do this.

I didn't really pay attention to Tech that closely until the last few years, so I can't speak to how some of their attitudes towards other fans have changed. I do think that there may be something to the thought that their fans attitudes have gotten worse since Leach has been head coach. Given that he doesn't give a crap what other people think, and that he has a tendency to push everyone's buttons, I think the younger fans have taken this as their cue to do the same.

And DiamondM, as far as getting ridiculed goes, my guess is that your husband being a Tech fan and you going to the game with him has probably insulated you somewhat. It also may depend on what section you sit in, which is probably not near the student section, I would guess.

My wife is an Aggie and I went to the SMU game there a couple years back, and I have to say that I was treated very well by the fans. I was probably 1 of 5 people in my entire section that was wearing any SMU gear, and from before the game until well into the arse-kicking we received, they never disrepected me. People can say what they want about A&M, but I have a lot of respect for the fans that I encountered at the game that day.

Nasty behavior I can handle. It's Lubbock that keeps me home.

When Tech came to Ford during my time on the Hilltop we would just chant "Safety School". They really didn't like that much.

There's always Eastfield.... Texas Tech east campus

And yes, we were pretty well received by the real Aggies too. Nice bunch of crazy zealots.
