This Kid is so good he scored a .9 GPA last year. No one in SMU Football History has done that:

NOT Doak
NOT Meredith
NOT even Eric Dickerson.

Playing an ineligible quarterback, now that's smart.

Plenty of players, not just JW, get a GPA around a 1.0 or even worse, people have received 0.0 GPA's. That is why they offer summer school classes that are esseentially easy A's.

Well, maybe Meredith.

Nobody EVEN looked at Eric's grades afterwards saying, "Oops, I
FORGOT" :!:

You make the call. PB your favorite coach, has his job is on
the line, and you're the savior QB. Do you concentrate on grades
this one semester, or the almighty FOOTBALL :?:

Not sure what's REALLY going on, but June's starting to make my skin
crawl.

Missing team meetings, study hall, etc. should be nipped in the bud
early by management before they become a problem.

By appearances, ol June just lets a few slip by without warning or
expectations, and then explodes suspending a TOP player, or 2 to be a
SCAPEGOAT for FEAR FACTOR.

Can we get our money back :?:

Maybe if the athletes actually picked up their books from the book store and studied the GPAs wouldn't be so low. You wouldn't believe how many athletes (football, basketball, swimming) don't bother to get their books.

Let's assume the "three strike" system bantied about here is correct. What is Jones to do when these guys don't straighten up and fly right after two strikes? What would you have done after two strikes?

SERIOUS INQUIRY: are we adequtely staffed in academic support for athletes. I'm absolutely positive that class attendance etc is closely monitored by Big Time programs. Have we cut corners here or is just individual athletes failing to meet their responsibilities or is a combination of both. Or perhaps at Big Time programs attendance = passing. I don't know-it seems to be a recurring theme in FB and BB especially over the last 2-3 years. Any knowledgeable opinions.

This is a good question--I thought this was all supposed to be part of the new "learning center" or whatever that started up about the time the stadium opened.
