Rice OpenerAnyone know why the opener is on friday? Did I read that wrong? Rice and SMU don't want to compete with opening HS friday night football in Texas do they?
Anyone know why the opener is on friday?
Because ESPN offered the national exposure. "THE SMU BLVD - - NO PLACE ELSE" (retired)
That has changed over the last 5-8 years with the zero week being added to the schedule. It's usually the last weekend of August. Not everybody does it but more and more hs teams are because they like having the bye mixed into their season.
Most schedules I've seen for next season start on that same weekend. I know Longview opens @ Allen on the 29th. ![]()
What game will you be at?
Probably neither. SMU game on the television set. Longview game on the internet radio. ![]() ![]()
Rice SMU will be the first game of the college football season - ESPN offered to air it and we took it.
You gotta get down for one or the other...it's opening night of football in Texas!
I heard at the Austin JJ even that we will be the second game with there being a game on Thursday night. ![]() Eric Dickerson in Pony Excess "I've love winning man, it's like better than losing." - Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh
