Jeff Reinebold

Hawaii had another pass recruit who was being recruited by Jeff Reinebold and committed (Corbin Brown). Both these guys were promised scholarships by Reinebold which were later pulled. As for Brown, he finally signed with the Air Force or Army on a full ride or he sure would have been part of this lawsuit.

It seemed to many that Reinebold was a loose recruiting cannon under Jones. Although considered a good recruiter, I'm sure these two incidents will put a damper on his future recruiting success and be used against him by other schools he's competing against for recruits.

Word out on the Hawaiian streets was that Coach Mac was disatisfied with Reinebold because of recruiting and coaching issues and did not extented an offer to Reinebold to remain on the Hawaii coaching staff for which Reinebold really wanted. Reinebold was extending offers to defensive players without coach Mac's approval that really didn't fit into the defensive scheme being taught. Reinebold was offering schollis to players that fit his style of play vs Coach Mac's.

If it wasn't for Jones late start at SMU and Reinebold's success with Texas recruiting, Jones wouldn't have hired him also.

Jones needs to put the chains on him real soon or look for SMU to return to the death sentence days.

Aloha means goodbye!

You've done nothing but trash Jones and SMU since he took this job and left your Warriors in the lurch (personally, I'd have liked to drop the "rainbow" a long time ago if I were a UH fan, but you can keep clinging to it if you lean that way--not that there's anything wrong with that). I'm beginning to think you are upset with him leaving that hellhole of a facility y'all gave him to work with....

Actually, *Miano*, not Reinbold, recruited Corbin Brown. Miano remains on staff at UH and actually got a promotion after McMackin took over.

If Corbin Brown hadn't received a scholarship and wanted to sue, then *Miano* would have been added to the lawsuit. I wouldn't use Corbin Brown to try to criticize Reinbold as a loose cannon because the lawsuit clearly states that Brown was recruited by Miano. I honestly had thought that Reinbold had recruited Brown, as I (and probably many other UH fans) assumed that Reinbold was the lead for most of the mainland recruits!

There was a perception that Reinbold was a loose cannon by the coaches who remained at UH. Part of that was because they were not aware of some of the players that Reinbold had offered (JJ probably knew, but he was gone by then). That doesn't mean that the offers were bad...for example, JJ Autele was offered a scholarship to UH by Reinbold and then after Reinbold had left another UH coach went to Autele to offer him a scholarship...however, before he did so Doris Sullivan informed the coach that Autele already had an offer from UH via Reinbold from some time before. Doris related this story on SportsHawaii, so this is already public knowledge.

I believe that every UH coach knew about Daniel Smith because both Hawaii papers had nice long articles about his commitment to UH long before NLI day. The message boards and blogs all had discussions about his commit, and his commit was on the TV news also. The news of the offer and commit was hard to miss for any sports fan in Hawaii!

There might have been cases where Reinbold gave an offer without JJ's approval, as was also apparently the case in the Corbin Brown situation with Miano. After what happened, I'll bet that offers are much more carefully done at both UH and SMU under McMackin and JJ.

I actually think that the facilities at UH will be a lot better soon, and part of that is because JJ leaving put a spotlight on the facility problem. Coach McMackin will benefit from this and do a great job at UH. JJ leaving made the Hawaii Legislature take notice and tour the Academic and Athletic facilities (with the TV cameras running) for the first time in my memory. A bill passed the Hawaii House yesterday for $600 mil in facility repair and maintenance for UH...if it gets past the Senate and Governor than UH's facilities will end up being quite nice.
