Ken D. -I am a Buckeye fan as well- only because I grew up in Ohio and more importantly for the last 20 years I have been embarrassed by my alma mater. Heretofore my only SMU garb was a T-shirt with SMU soccer. I could defend the soccer program but could not explain (nor did I care to) the shortcomings of the football program. However, we are now in a new era and I need to update my garb. Thank you JJ for a renewed interest - my blood now runs blue and red again.

You mean like BLM or Braden (I played for his dad at HP so I'm pulling for him)? Also can't argue with throwing Logan Turner in there, maybe Rhodes. I seriously doubt Willis would move to receiver though. I mean the way I see it JJ suspends him and then says he can come back as a receiver? Hard to say if JWill's commitment to SMU Football runs that deep and that he would humble himself that much. I will say that while he needs to get his you-know-what together he shouldn't settle for not being a QB because he's too good of one to not do so. Do the words "Texas State" sound about right to you?

As an addendum to my earlier post, I was reacting to the posted responses on this board not the blog post - which I read, of course. I don't agree that Willis is the best QB we've had, but his point was well taken "arguably the best young signal caller"..... obviously it's arguable. And you can't be the best signal caller until you do something, like win and win a lot.
My point was just about throwing Willis under the bus. I'm not going to jump the gun to quickly on that one. And my point still is his Freshman year was pretty darn amazing.

Instead of being too ashamed to wear SMU garb over the last 20 years, you should be ashamed of coming on here and admitting you are nothing more than a Johnnie Come Lately Bandwagonner.
We all hated being made fun of but a lot of us continued to proudly support SMU.

TBA - please re-read my post. I said that I was wearing SMU soccer garb. No football garb. I am hardly a 'johnny-come-lately as you put it.. Did you offer to fund a lawsuit against the NCAA for selective enforcement? Why not Wienie??? I have experienced more pain for the actions of the football program than you know so in short- shut the hell up.

Nobody has to apologize for refusing to sit through this self-inflicted Nitemare year after year. SMU was simply not interested in fielding competitive teams so why should a fan care if the school didn't. Those very people he is criticizing are the ones we need to build the program.

I proudly welcome all lifelong SMU fans as well as newcomers and fans who we had lost but are now back to joint the bandwagon. Any fans are welcome in my book.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Aren't you forgetting someone? Richard Bartel? Or how about Tate Wallis? Chris Phillips? Some great QBs there.
In terms of JWill I agree w/ Mr. Kent Dorfman. He made some key plays but the only reason he shattered the record books is because we had to throw it all game to play catch up, leaving the run game non existent after the first quarter. He's got a hot head and is too much of a show boat. I am hoping he gets his act together and is thrown to WR or leaves. Time for one of JJ's recruits to step in and run this offense and this team.

Sorry if the post I put in there threw anyone. Still learning how to use the interface. But my post there was in response to ponyfan84's post, just in case anyone needed any clarification

Hey 'gostangs' - 'ashamed of supporting Ohio State' - you gotta' be serious. OSU has a much better record than my alma mater. In addition, I happen to have a lot of loyalty to my home state. How about you?? Do you suck orange or are you a turncoat?? Last time I remember OSU meeting the 'cowpatties' in Austin the Buckeyes won - even with the 'homie referrees'.
However, the Mustangs are back and many of us are glad we can now support a football program that no longer embarasses us. For many years SMU soccer, basketball and swimming carried the banner, now perhaps with JJ football can do the same.
