Just curious if you have seen him play much since hes been here. I havent made it to any practices so I have never seen him even dribble.
Is he any good or does he need a lot of work?

I give up. Which recruits are going to prep school? Clarke and Haynes?

we hope he nailed it b/c the other two would look to fit directly into the rotation

So when a recruit goes to prep school, who pays?

The Prep school. No guarantee that the player ends up at SMU. They are free-game. Although it is often stated that a university "places" a recruit at a JUCO or Prep School that is a misnomer. Sometimes they will suggest a school which is on good terms with the Coach however.
I think if you go to a diploma mill, the new rules make you a non-qualifier, but two years at a JUCO purges the non-qualifier status and you have two years of eligibility. Will his grades transfer is a whole nother issue.
His grades dont actually transfer, just his credit hours, enough credits to be a junior. and, as a non-qualifier, he has to graduate from junior college before he can attend a 4 year school on scholarship. Hopefully if some of his hours dont transfer, he can make them up in summer school.

Since we signed him, I hope you are correct!

A kid going to post-grad prep school is always a risk down the road of going elsewhere, and they might not make the grades there or get mad and quit or get kicked out. A number of the prep schools are also military schools where they have fairly strict rules that some of these players have trouble accepting and they don't complete the program. It happens.

He doesnt actually sign until mid-April.

And I would sort of doubt we see any kids we send to a prep school again. We still dont have the scholarships to bring them both back (assuming 2 go). We only have 1 senior and 1 junior next year. or 2 juniors, if Faye is considered a junior. If we bring back even one of the prep school kids, then that's all of our scholarships for next season.

I guess it is a good sign if it means that we are finally playing the game like everybody else. Hopefully, the wins will follow.

So we had 3 ships for next year? Correct?
We gave them to Otis, Haynes, Dubois.
Then we picked up Faye and now have a commit from Williams.
So, that puts us 2 over?
Rumor has it 2 guys will go to prep - is the rumor Haynes and Dubois?
Or do we think one of this years guys will try elsewhere?
Or am I one ship off?

I could be very wrong and I am sure that XTC can correct me if I am, but I doubt very seriously that any school has ever lost a recruit that they felt they NEEDED to have for a successful team, due to lack of a scholarship. Openings can be made if needed. Not always pretty and not always fair, but openings can be made. If the reincarnation of Michael Jordan said he wanted to come to SMU today, we would find a scholarship for him.

There may be a time where, hypothetically, UNC has a kid who says that he would have rather gone to Duke but he heard they were full, but I would imagine that if Duke had wanted that kid and knew the kid wanted them, they would have found a place.

P-dawg, you left out Chris Clarke. and there was one more open scholarship (Dez Willingham) so we are still 2 over.

And yes, room can always be made. It's not always a nice thing, and sometimes not a good idea, because you can destroy relationships with high school and AAU coaches connected to the player you shaft, but it can be done.
