Agreed. And who knows what terms were talked about.
So if Otis, Williams, and Faye is the incoming class, that seems to
be a pretty solid class, yes?
Edit: So we have one more ship avail for either Clarke, Haynes, or Dubois.
And I believe Dubois is the more talented out of the three, please correct me if I am wrong...not that i had to ask that on this board

Someone said earlier that they thought Clarke and Haynes were the ones going to Prep school.

Technically scholarships are for one year and are renewable at the whim of the University. Unlike other schools SMU has attempted not to run players off who don't cut it, but there is no prohibition against it. Doherty knows that he may not have the luxury of keeping players for 4 years who don't cut it. And he may very well have to pull some scholarships from some players. Pulling scholies is a two edged sword. If you do it too much, you'll find it harder to recruit. On the other hand, if players see teammates getting the axe, they know that slacking and quitting will not be tolerated.

By my count we are three over:
Current Roster
1) Dia
2) Fall
3) Faye
4) Harp
5) Kwiatkowski
6) Malone
7) Nyakundi
 Rhodes
9) Spencer
10) Walker
2008-09 Additions
11) DuBois
12) Otis
13) Clarke
14) Haynes
15) Williams
That's 15. 12 scholarships right? Does Faye count towards the Fall 08 numbers since he will not be playing until the Spring 09?

13 scholarships.
fall or spring doesnt make a difference. 2008-2009 is one school year. What are you going to do, let one guy play in the fall then kick him off at Christmas time to free up his scholarship for another guy? There's no greyshirting in basketball.
Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.

Going out on a limb but I'm guessing none of the guys currently on the roster are going pro in this year's draft?
Yes I'm kidding.

On what do you base that opinion?

One thing that hasn't been brought up is potential grade problems. Afterall this school still isn't the easiest and some of these players might be in trouble. I have no inside knowledge, but it is always a possibility.

One scenario that's been discussed here is the possibility that an existing player, probably Spencer, would be released and two members of the new class, probably Clarke & Haynes would go to prep schools reducing our 15 to 12.
I hate to see anyone released but it would remove a guy who's probably never going to contribute much and replace him with someone who should.
BTW, could you release someone like Spencer from his basketball scholarship & put him on a different scholarship and just not let him play hoops so he could finish his degree if he was willing to stay around?

Basketball gets 13 scholarships. Only 2 players/recruits are going to have to transfer or go to prep school. My money is on haynes and Clarke going to prep school

Everyone seems to be guessing about the prep school kids. Haynes played on a bad team in a less then profile conference, but physically, he's a pretty serious athlete.
Obviously, I hope Otis and Dubois are eligible from Day 1, but don't sleep on Haynes. If his ankle is really messed up, his prepping could be a blessing. That said, he'd probably be a WCAC type player after prepping. I wouldn't be surprised to see Doh try and stash a kid or two at Findlay in Vegas.
Chris Clarke played on a loaded high school team, but didn't start. If we could pass on that ship, it may be best for the program. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if his main recruiter was the guy who left for Mich St.
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.â€- Jalen Jones
