You have offer a competitive Model to get the BEST COACH to take the job in the first place-No. 2 doesn't have a thing to do with Coaching or Recruiting. Facilities, Salary and Commitment from the university (ie. apparently SMU convinced him that the last vestiges of academic and administrative roadblocks had been lifted-the same restrictions he criticized just 4-5 years ago). If SMU was offering the MODEL they competed under to hire Gregg, Rossley, Cavan and even Bennett that great coaching candidate turns SMU down. In other words, get your [deleted] together before looking for a Coach. When you do you'll get a higher quality Coach.
Also, getting out the big-boy checkbook doesn't hurt. -CoS
