from the DMN:
SMU announced the inaugural class of its Athletics Hall of Fame. SMU hasn't had a means to honor former athletes since the SMU/Dr Pepper Hall of Fame, which existed from 1978-1986, lapsed after the football team was temporarily shut down for the NCAA-mandated death penalty. The former hall of fame honored athletes and administrators who played roles in establishing the football program. The 35 members will be honored at an induction ceremony May 2 at the Hotel Palomar – Don Meredith will serve as honorary chairman – along with the following new inductees: Forrest Gregg, Lamar Hunt, Martina Moravcova and Payne Stewart.
