Feature articles on JJ from a Hawaii paperJones ready to "Pony Up" at SMU
http://starbulletin.com/2008/04/06/spor ... .html#jump Jones close to leaving Hawaii before http://starbulletin.com/2008/04/06/sports/story02.html
The funny thing is that this was published in a Hawaii paper, but the writer is actually a writer for a San Antonio newspaper. So, I guess the San Antonio reporter doesn't know much about SMU football...
I don't buy the drab, dreary picture he paints for SMU either.
Dallas and SMU are incredibly attractive and not a tough sell. Sure, Hawaii's beautiful and all that, (lived there and been there several times since) but it can't compare to Dallas as a football destination, bra. Shaka, that.
"This idiot writes that Ford Stadium is "refurbished."
Big surprise the author of this article and who obviously takes great joy in trashing everything about SMU is a former beat writer for 15 years for the Austin American-Statesman and wrote a book fawning over the Texas Longhorns. ![]() C-ya @ Milos!
Isn't that the bleachers for the soccer field that is outside his window?
Guy obviously didn't do his homework, because the picture he paints for the reader is a lie, or he has an axe to grind.
Fear the MOB BOSS! ![]()
Noticed he forgot to mention how good those SMU teams of the early 80's were with some specifics. He certainly left out that great win down in Austin in 1982. Most longhorns choose to block that one out. Of course the game was nationally televised so the rest of the country saw UT loose to the Pony Express.
Good article regardless.
That would explain it. As a former Texas beatwriter, he no doubt remembers Ownby and figured they put lipstick on that pig and called it Ford.
Apparently, SMU is now in Corpus Christi. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_State_Highway_286
