I'd be surprised if we have a Red and Blue game again (as long as June Jones is here). He is the one calling the shots. I was able to attend 6 workouts and see a lot of progress. Saturday's event was what I expected. That's why I went. I enjoyed every aspect of it and the weather was terrific.

I wonder if JJ will hold the "Scout Bowl" like he did each year in Hawaii. That was always held during a bye week, and was an opportunity for the players who didn't get much playing time to show what they can do. The starters would get really into cheering on the players in the Scout Bowl.
The Scout Bowl is a *full contact* game, and the players in it have a chance to earn playing time so the backups really get into it. The starters would hold a draft and it would be interesting to see which of the backups (or redshirts) were highly valued by the starters--normally a good indication of future stars for the team.
Anyway, if SMU has a Scout Bowl, I heavily recommend that people attend. That would be a much more satisfying game-like condition than the Spring Game.

June was right, we are really thin right now. There is little upside to a spring game at this point.

Exactly-we hardly need any major injuries to deal with right now so it was a good move.

On a positive note, Stallion won one of the raffle prizes-a $50 gift certificate to the Movido Boutique-so I got that going for me.

On another positive note, one of the recruits parents were sitting close to me and I heard them say that they had been to the Junior Days at Oklahoma State and Tulsa, and that SMU's was much more organized.

If I was the Mob boss I would let June know this is going to be a bigger deal in the future - and that we need to think of ways to entertain what was a pretty big crowd that proably left wanting more. I saw many non SMU people in attendence and they did not see much to be fired up about - in return for showing up. A full scrimmage is the point - and they should just have done that and held a practice later in the day if need be.
I hear SMU is going to go towards more of a "round up" open house type deal for the entire University on this day - so expect it to get bigger not smaller.

We will have spring games in years to come. That will not change regardless of the coach.

So are you saying we're going to force JJ into having spring games? Not likely...probably more like this years which is ok with me. we could be like UNT who had their starting qb knocked out of a spring game with a shoulder injury. backup qb was already out.

Being from Hawaii, JJ probably knows a meaningless football game when he sees one. If you have ever watch the NFL Pro Bowl, you soon realize that avoiding injury is the primary goal of each player.
It's hard to play a football game that doesn't count. So get over it.

I brought my father & brother in law and they were impressed by the organization and how well everything was ran. Nice touch to have greeters thanking everyone for showing up. I was shocked to see SMU's Paris Hilton look-alike crowd show up.

I think you could still have a "Spring Game" and design it to avoid injuries.
Wear helmets, shoulder pads, with light contact or be in shorts if need be.
We need to have a Spring Game or at least a "Spring Event". SMU can not afford to leave the publicity and connection with fans, media, and recruits sitting on the table and not have a Spring Game.
They are on the right track. It was much improved this year. It needs to be an "event" and it certainly looked like "an event" with those 300-400 recruits eating in the south end zone and then all of them standing on the sidelines. But the thing "ran out of steam" after about 45 minutes of "drills".
The Mob Boss should send someone to UT, OU, ND, ect.. to observe their Spring Games and "steal" ideas. It is good news that someone said SMU's Spring Game was better organized than Oklahoma State & Tulsa.
It could be helped along with better information coming from the PA system. BTW.....Where was the Mustang Band? The cheerleaders need to be in their uniforms just like the players. As support grows with the June Jones era this Spring Event needs to be a staged production.
