Getting this thing back on the rails...

Texas Tech is spending a bunch of money trying to get a presence in the Dallas area. With the Top 10 Percent restrictions at UT and A&M, a lot of high-achieving, traditional state school students are being shut out of their first choices. Many of them are opting to go across the border to OU and OSU. Tech is trying to stay in the consciousness of these kids - and trying to make Lubbock seem a lot closer than it really is.

Also, I believe West Texas is losing population. That has traditionally been Tech's biggest draw, naturally. Tech has always gotten a good number of students from D-FW, but I believe it's more critical for them now. Plus, it's smart to diversify your future donor base.

And it's not just bus backs. It's billboards and magazine ads, too. Plus, I went to a high school football game last fall and the back of my ticket had a Tech ad with a website URL where you could sign up for a free gift. I wonder if that's a recruiting violation, but I suppose not since it didn't specifically target athletes.

Longtime has nailed it.

They are making a concerted effort in the metroplex. Their enrollment has been flat for a long time, and their region is losing population. They would like to get bigger, and DFW is the first logical place to increase marketing. DFW is the most populous Texas metro area, and is the nearest large population center to them.

I heard a Tech radio spot on WRR not long ago.

I don't particularly care for it, that that double-T is a recognizable brand logo.
