I just purchased two of the band CD's while visiting during Thanksgiving. I believe they were from the late 50s - early 60's recording. UNBELIEVABLE!!! They were a classic during that time. Great music that I would recommend for everyone!!!
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

WOW! Thanks to all for the great pics. We should somehow find a way to archive all of these for the future.
When I get back to Dallas this fall I will scan my old programs. I have both Ohio State-SMU programs as well as the SMU-ND programs. The OSU programs are very special as Doak Walker (who came down from Detroit to see the game) took me into the SMU locker room after the game and got me autographs of the players as well introducing me to them. Fantastic experience for a 7 yr. old boy.

GO PONIES!!!!!

Wow, that's a dream come true. What year was that? I have an SMU-OSU program from 1964 or 65.

IIRC it was 1950-51. The first game SMU won 32-27 and the second they lost 7-0. In '50 Kyle Rote, Fred Benners and Johnny Champion stole the show. They played a fantastic second half. I believe the half time score was 21-0 OSU. Final score SMU 32- OSU 27. Sorry, but I do not remember the scores of the SMU- ND games in South Bend. They were games that you want to forget. A guy named Leon Hart gave the Mustangs a terrible time.

I remember my Dad, SMU 50, telling us stories about how he saw little
Johnny Champion knocking, and blocking a huge guy, probably All-
American Leon Hart, around in the great SMU 20 - ND 27 game in the
Cotton Bowl :!:

Also he said Kyle Rote was running wild with 10 - 20 yards per carry
during a streak in the second half until he was taken out of the game.
He said he saw Kyle wanting back in game, but the coaches thought he
was hurt or too winded.

My father, who used to post here under this name, became an SMU fan because of Doak Walker. He used to tell me about listening to the 1949 SMU-ND game on the radio as a high schooler in Houston. In his opinion it was the best game he never saw. He also told me about Benners and the 1950 Ohio State game.

Almost 20 years ago, I met an old OSU grad who later relocated to Dallas who was at that 1950 game in Columbus and saw Benners riddle his Buckeyes. SMU became his second favorite team after that.
