Son Michael is a 6'2" 190 lb QB for Arlington Lamar which as most of you know SMU has had an excellent pipeline to (Poynter, Turner, Kennemer, Ellis, Michelson) in recent years. You will not find him in data bases just yet as he did not start for Eddy Peach last year. Coach Peach who will reach 300 wins this year after two wins (never been done at any classification at one school; only one in 5-A no matter the school) almost NEVER starts a junior at QB. Last one I remember is JJ Joe of Baylor fame. Michael is 20-1 coming up the ranks including the Junior team (not JV) last year (A Class 5-A junior team is probably the equivalent of a 1 or 2-A Friday night team). He will be Lamar's starting QB this fall. He is top 4% of his class; SAT of 1980 (2400) and GPA of 3.94. He has been invited to the Nike Elite 11 Regional Camp in Fort Worth in April. He is cut out of the same mold as Ben and Tommy but he fortunately has his mothers genetics (long and lean). He is second on his team any position in the power clean. I am hoping we can get SMU out to see him in Spring Ball this year. He has grown up watching the Mustangs; hope someone is "listening"
HEY JUNE!!! JUUUUUNNNNE!!!! MOORRRISSSON!!!! You guys listening???
The Poynters have been good to SMU!!!

I suppose it's rude to ask if you've got heights and weights and 40s on all these guys, and their schools of interest ... right?

He doesn't look like he's 5-11, but the video clips on that Chance Casey kid are impressive. Kid's got nice wheels, but more than that, he has the acceleration - he's moving full-speed after just a couple of steps. Don't know if he's big enough, but he can motor.

Sticky Upgrade, alright. Yeah, that's why I started this. I think it's interesting to see the regions and recruit quality comparisons side-by-side. It shows where we're fishing and whether or not we're aiming big.

Great job on the recruiting info.
I have an observation/question, though. It seems like we recruit a lot of kids from East Jesus, TX, or its suburbs. Not a lot of city boys up there. Lots of small, country-ish areas (Bellville, Crosby to name a few examples). We're a city school, so why are we not appealing to city kids? The downtown schools in Dallas and Houston (I played HS in a 5A school in Houston) have TREMENDOUS talent, yet our recruiting seems directed elsewhere, for the most part. Disproportionately so.
Thoughts?
We've never lost the tailgate.

I assumed that JJ would have had closer coaching connections in larger cities and that's where we'd see his new recruits coming from but either his recruiters have better rapport elsewhere or it's easier to convince a star 2A athlete to take a chance on SMU than it is to make the same argument to a strong 5A/urban-area player. Or maybe it's harder to get solid interest from city athletes this early.

Many more 5A schools than small schools listed but many of those listed are suburbs of big metro areas so their backgrounds may look more rural than they are

OBSERVATION: many of the kids of the inner city are less prone to have long standing ties to the various state schools in Texas. That's one reason it was always important to have strong Texas coaching ties in the inner cities especially Houston and Dallas. The best recruiters on each staff in this part of the country concentrate on Dallas and Houston. Jones' coaching staff right now are a little lean in ties to those inner cities although I believe the assistant from Utah has recruited the Houston area. Quite frankly its going to take some time and some success to overcome those lack of contacts.

I know JJ has an affinity for pipsqueak receivers who're elusive and can run... Cause we took a lot of them in the '07 class...
But Da-yum, is anybody else starting to get just a little impressed with the size and apparent athleticism of this class?!?!?
I think Bennett's '03 class was the highest rated post-DP with Justin Boren, Avery Cleveland, Richuel Massey, Desmond Jones, Chris Phillips, Cory Muse, Zach Hall, Ricky Joe Meeks, Ervin McGee and Joe Sturdivant all being rated 3-stars by Rivals (that's 10 3-stars total).
We're not even out of the summer, and we already have half as many 3-star athletes as the vaunted '03 class, and none of these guys have benefitted from playing their senior years yet.
