I made a comment in the UNT thread that we should be playing TCU, Baylor and UNT. I like it. We can methodically choose the BCS team to play like the upcoming series we have with Missouri.

Really, we don't have to play Texas or Ohio State or Georgia in that other game. It would be nice but we know the return game will be at JerryWorld filled with more of their fans than ours. We can go for mid-level BCS team

Until the level of college football changes, we should play a competitive non-conference schedule, not an impossible schedule.

Love it!

Give me TCU, Baylor and UNT every year....We get to play our biggest rival, a BCS school and a UNT game could develop into a big rivalry with a ton of UNT grads in the area.

Low travel costs for the teams, Fans can easily make the road trips for nice attendance and most years we should have a good chance to win these.

Lets win these games, our conference games, then we can play BCS schools in the bowl games that will hopefully start rollin in over the next few years....

they do a nice job with the finishing touches on my car wash, but that doesn't mean i need to share a college football experience with them
It tastes better when served from a Bowl (game)!

I think this is probably a pretty good deal for SMU all the way around.
We'll compete well with those schools and most of them are natural rivals for us. We'll still have room to throw in a "paycheck" game every so often against someone else if we want. (I'm not sure we want to until our level of play is better)

Patton says: ... We can methodically choose the BCS team to play like the upcoming series we have with Missouri.

We have to remember that the BCS-BS schools may not necessarily want to play the schools outside their cartel like our subdivision bowl series. That's why they call it a cartel. I believe it's safe to say that the bigger BCS schools are playing us less & less - trying to squeeze us out of the $$$ more & more. A better question begs to be asked is where is "leadership" when we need it from our ranks??!!
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

that'a a pretty darn good set of schedules except for SFA. It will also be reflected in much higher attendance at Ford Stadium-regardless of what the team does under Jones.I credit Orsini for again making the financially intelligent de4cision to play team that will bring in revenue-not jump all around the country playing teams we have no business creating series with. Botton Line Orsini-that's what that schedule is about.

I agree with Stallion. Let's not let our eyes get bigger than our stomachs. I think this schedule will lend itself pretty well to our current needs. None of these games (except SFA) will be a gimme, at least at first. And the travel benefits are big since less people will be able to fly as often in the coming years.

I would think the Sand Aggies would rather play us in Dallas then Lubbock for recruiting purposes.

Future Scheduling

Postby lwjr » Mon Jun 30, 2008 10:16 am

I think TCU, Navy and schools along those lines are great. I am not real thrilled with NTSU. They are a commuter school and do not have much of a fan base. We gain nothing by playing them. SFA, why? Do we get to travel to Nacogdoches one year and tailgate in the Piney woods of East Texas? Whoopie! Were none of the directional schools in Louisiana available? I think this one sucks. This sounds like Texas Tech style of scheduling. Hopefully SFA will be drop before we have to play them again.

Go PONYS !!!!! :?

Well that little commuter school easily attracted the second best crowd to Ford last year-better than any CUSA team. Here's a Little ECONOMICS 101 for some of you:

Texas Tech 26,969
Rice 13,902
North Texas 20,517
Tulane 14,901
UTEP 16,464
UCF 10,271

Bottom Line Orsini knows what he is doing with this schedule. SMU can not continue to run up huge deficits forever. The CUSA West especially will never be a financial boon to SMU's bottom line-SMU averaged about 13,500 per CUSA game. Reality dictates that SMU must play teams that produce revenue and this schedule is directly aimed at that goal. The SMU/NTSU series has the potential to be one of SMU's most profitable series if you throw in travel costs. I predict attendance will rise in the series with Jones/Dodge at the helm. The game certainly makes more sense than Texas St. Sam Houston, Arkansas St and the other nobodies we've scheduled recently. In fact, I'd bet that the among the biggest paydays in SMU recent years has been Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor and North Texas State games-which is why they are on the schedule. Probably the other series that earned more was Oklahoma St.
