PonyStampede is the only site that beaks stories on SMU sports and should be supported if we want to keep getting that type of information. Further, I guarantee you those relying on an SMU source for all their recruiting news w/o getting perspective in how SMU is recruiting in relation to their opponents will be "dangerously and habitually" uninformed as has been shown over and over for the last 20 years.

Don't waste your time with rationality - Jesus could build an SMU fan site and some people still wouldn't like it simply because it isn't ponyfans.com. These are the same people who cared that Bennett was "a good man".

Both do a good job and I support both. In fact, Scout.com is inviting a Ponyfans expert to be a part of the radio show. It appears they are working together.

We're not working together per se, but Scout has invited The Dallas Morning News (Kate) and one of our editors to participate in their radio show. This may or may not happen for sure because of some previous commitments, but we expect to be a partner in this venture. Of course, this may have changed since lunchtime, and I wouldn't doubt that James has already posted an update. Our editor has been covering the Mustangs, from the inside, for about 20 years, is an award-winning sports journalist and editor, so his insight would be invaluable to the program.

I make it a point to not get on the board and editorialize, but I do think there are a couple of points that should be made in this regard.

1. With the exception of Dale Hansen, almost all media coverage is good coverage as far as our athletics program is concerned, and competition will be for the overall good of the program.

2. The absence of a major SMU Rivals or Scout affiliate may have diminished our recruiting rankings (stars) over the years, which has a cumulatively negative effect. I think we'll end up with a bunch of 3 and maybe even a couple of 4-star recruits this year for the simple fact that our recruits will be on the recruiting services' radar screens for the first time.

3. You guys can bash Scout all you want for misspelling our players' and recruits' names. That's probably a fairly legit point. But I think the point's been made here and elsewhere that the recruiting services aren't necessarily professional journalists (in general), nor are they athletes or coaches. So don't go there hoping to read the Friday Night Lights. But they are a good source for disseminating recruiting information, helped by the fact that they can draw information on recruits through a national network.

4. When PonyFans does publish its Annual Recruiting Roundup, it will continue to be the most in-depth coverage of our recruits period. AND our facts aren't just based on what the players or their high school coaches tell us, but they will all be verified firsthand.

I agree there is a place for both Ponyfans and Pony Stampede. The quality of the articles in Ponyfans is by far the best reporting on SMU. The energy and promptness with which Ponystampede reports make it the best at breaking news. Some of the names may have been misspelled, but no one else had a photographer taking pictures of the guys reporting. So if all you were looking at is DMN and PF you would not have gotten the info. I don't believe any other reporters are calling prospective recruits and getting their commitments. So if you want to know who has orally committed then PS is your ticket. As I say both PF and PS have their place and I too encourage supporting both. I would also like to see some more of you posting on the PS forum.
