Rice had operation sellout in 1998 against SMU, when we lost in overtime. They had around 50,000. That was the game Roy Rios, missed the field goal at the end of regulation.

Roy Rios missed another makeable field goal? That's all he was known for. I think he also missed a gimme against Missouri in the late 90s. He was a joke.

I was there and got my tickets from the Rice Ticket Office online...To this day, I still get Rice adverts in the mail wanting me to buy tickets for Operation Sellout every year.
I remember Sanders at QB in that game...SMU drove down and scored a TD on the opening drive, then the game was close all the way. I remember SMU breaking a big run in their own Territory in the closing minute on 4th and 1 only to have the game winning field goal BARELY miss as time ran out. I also remember the Rice running back fumbling the ball and it bounce back up to him in overtime, ala Dickerson at Tech.

I was at that game too. At the time I thought is was important that the team get a win in the first game after ending the season with a loss to TCU the previous year. As 1998 unfolded it became very clear that we had a talent deficit. We could have won that first game against Rice, but the truth would have been discovered later in the season.
Let's wipe the slate clean on August 29th and get a win at Rice. Ron Meyer's first goal was to establish supremecy among the private schools annually. With the run and shoot we should dominate Rice and Tulane. We'll see how it goes from there.
