question for SMU fans.I am new to the board and was wondering a few things.
1. What do you expect with adding June Jones as your HC? 2. Do you think he'll take you to the next level? 3. Do you think he'll give you a win vs. TCU? thanks.
As you read more on this board, you will notice that Pony Fans are instructed by JTstang to not have expectations. Therefore, your first question is null and void as none of us have expectations. That way, we can't experience the joy of disappointment. Now we do have hope. JTstang allows hope. We all hope that JJ will take us to the conference USA championship and that we get to win the National Championship.
The next question is yes. Currently we suck and with just a few more players and a super coach we can catapult to mediocre. Yes, we hope we beat TCU. In honesty, most of us have expectations of improvement. Many are tempered in their enthusiasm as it has been so long since we have performed well. Too many mental mistakes, blown coverages and turnovers have soured some to the thought that a quick turn around isn't possible. In truth, we are not athletically capable of competing with strong teams at this time but with success and JJ's reputation, the hope is that we can improve our level of talent to be more competitive and more up to the next level or more.
Re: question for SMU fans.
No DP questions?
I think it's fair to say that everyone is excited. But it's cautious optimism due to a couple of decades of excitement turning to disappointment. There's no doubt June Junes represents a sea change. Should be a load of fun.
Wow. Is that your Chamber of Commerce welcome speech? ![]() All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Nah, they only mention sheep in the College Station Chamber speech.
Shouldn't that be 'cows' since Fort Worth is called cowtown? ![]()
I thought they called it cowtown because it's where Gary Patterson resides.
I can only offer my own sincere expectations and experiences from SMU football. I was a freshman at SMU in 2002 and there was a new coach that everyone said was a great coordinator and had a couple top ten defenses in the Big 12 at Kansas State. Oh yeah, he also has major ties to high schools in Texas and will be an ace recruiter. Well, in his first game in front a pretty big crowd at Ford Stadium against a team that hadnt won a game in two years, we get utterly thrashed. Pretty much from that moment SMU football has been an exercise in futility led by a man who was simply overwhelmed by the difficulty of being the head coach at this school. There was no reason for genuine hope, recruiting was dwindling, attendance sagged even more than before, and we managed to become an even bigger after-thought in the world of college football.
Now, put yourself in the shoes of Joe-Schmo college football fan. Everyone knows the name June Jones b/c of his success at Hawaii. Most people would assume that if June Jones was going to leave Hawaii it would be for the NFL or a major college program. I think if you would have asked 100 people "in the know" about the odds of June Jones becoming the head coach at SMU, you'd get 100 laughs in the face. No way does June Jones go to that place (coach killer, death penalty, not even relevant in their own city, apathetic fans and students, etc.) Just think about that for a second. Steve Orsini actually pulled this off. I still get chills when I think about the possibilities of what we can do now. Just look at everything around the program. Excitement, energy, optomism abound b/c of June. This hire was a quantum leap for SMU and still has many people scratching their heads asking "WHY?" Our season ticket sales are up, our recruiting is doing very well, our kids seem to genuinely enjoy playing the game again and have a new air of confidence, and we've embraced the tradition of our storied program by reaching out to guys like Eric Dickerson and Craig James and going back to one of the alltime great uniforms in the history of college football. What Steve Orsini has done since firing Phil Bennett is truly nothing short of mind-blowing. Great things are about to happen at SMU and if I were you, I'd be trying to find a seat at the table to enjoy it. Just from my experience I went through 4 years of pathetic football as a student and I couldn't be more jealous of the students at SMU now who will get to see a turnaround of one of college football's great programs. I'm as excited about SMU football as I've ever been, and finally, there is a legitimate reason for that excitement. Back off Warchild seriously.
Nah, then they would call it hog town...because of how much he sweats...ah nevermind
But he didn't say he didn't want it either! Besides I'm stuck here in the office and its me and three other guys who have no work to do b/c of the holiday. If I waste a little time with an overly worded post, so be it.
Back off Warchild seriously.
