Third Down Thunder obviously didn't work. We were horrible on third downs. Let's find a new gimmick.
Third Down Throw-up - puking sounds piped in. Kids love to puke!

My understanding of third down thunder is pretty simple. Midway through the Kansas game to open Ford, a number of folks in the upper deck figured out that if you stomp like mad on the metal floor, it makes a fair amount of noise. If the stadium is crowded, it sounds great. It sounded really good in '06, too.
Couple of problems with that. First, crowds haven't been too good and the upper deck doesn't have enough people to make it effective. Second, the perpetual losing sucked enthusiasm and all sense of tradition out of the place. Like most pre-Orsini attempts to generate fan enthusiasm, it just falls flat. It was better before it had a name and a graphic.
You just can't create this stuff; it has to grow organically. Take a look at that stupid Kansas State video from last year with their towels and that cheer. It came across as ridiculous.

I follow you but those plastic blow up thingies are called thunder sticks and they give them out to the students. Only problem is the students tire of them very early and then leave at half time so they are of no use (other than for erotic toys used later in the evening.) I sit on concrete so all stomping my feet does is hurt my feet.
The only less successful "tradition" was the "First Down.................".

Third Down Thunder doesn't bother me. I can handle almost any "tradition" SMU can create as long as 1) we don't start looking/acting like aggies, and 2) we never, ever, ever have to hear Mighty Mustang Blunder again.

mrydel, you know you've made it when you are quoted in another poster's signature line. Congratulations.

I need to check with Eddie P. to see if a thread has ever been zapped due to signature line, and if so do you get a black horseshoe.

You and couch 'em would have to split a black horseshoe, I'm guessing.
