Tearing down the goal posts is one thing, but dragging it up into the visitors section is just plain idiotic.

I would submit that the fans of the following schools are much less offensive to be around than Tech's fans. I have experienced all as a visiting fan, or experienced them at home:

A&M
Texas
South Carolina
Tennessee
Georgia
Tulane
Alabama

Actaully, that whole mess turned out to be Aggies fighting with Aggies. Tech people were cleared on this.

A&M had to do a huge about face on this.

But who started the melee? Tech fans. They are @-holes, no matter if they are at home or away. If you can't tell, my loathing for Tech is much worse than my dislike of TCU.

This was the story regarding the aftermath of that game.

I was at that game. It was such a bizarre scene.

The automatic goalposts are so SMU. Tearing down goalposts, like cheering or standing, is only for the proletariat.

The only revenge is to beat the hell of of 'em some day. Let's concentrate on that rather than whinning about how mean they are.

The last two times at Lubbock were very ugly. Sure a little jawing back & forth is ok, but it goes way beyond that in Lubbock. It was almost amusing how nasty the Tech fans were even when they were winning big. Some of the Tech fans were screaming obscenities & seemed angry but they were up by over 20 in the 4th quarter. It was as though they were beating Ohio State. Why are they so angry at Smu? We haven't beat them in 20 years? You'd think football fans if their team was winning big over a team they are expected to beat would be in a good mood, would be happy, instead of fuming venom. I personally saw a Tech fan shove and scream at a very elderly Smu fan. Also a Texas Tech fan slapped a full soda out of the hand of a cheering Smu fan. The Tech rowdies were non-stop obscenities at the Smu band and even throwing stuff. Security had to be called in to the visitors section both of the last two times I was out there. No thanks I will be at the Smu/Navy game!

Is your Will updated?

We won't be traveling out to Lubbock. Like Special Delivery says, we're going to the SMU v Navy game instead. Looking forward to playing a classy team like Navy and enjoying the game with their fans.

The only part I enjoyed of the trip out there 2 years ago was when the Tech fans started yelling at us to go back to Dallas...sounded just fine to me.

The only thing I could think of that would have been worse than the drive home was the thought that one might have to actually live in the armpit that is Lubbock.

So how exactly are we, as fans, going to help the team prepare to do that? Last time I checked, none of us suit up on Saturdays, hold a clipboard on the sidelines, or are asked to deliver an impromptu "let's do it for the Gipper" sort of speech before the game.

We are doing the only things we can do, which is complain about things we don't like, cheer for things we do, and attend games to support our team.

When I went down to the A&M game a few years ago, I certainly didn't expect us to win. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how nice their fans were to me. I went with my wife's uncle (Aggie class of '63), so we were in his seats, and I was one of two fans in SMU gear in the middle of thousands of Aggies wearing maroon shirts. So I get it when people rag on the Aggies for being strange with their traditions, but I certainly respected them because they were all very classy during and after the game when they beat us by nearly 50 points.

"Classless Clowns" earn their namesake
By: Jim Foreman
11/8/05

While Texas Tech has improved its offense since 2003, they
have decreased the number of objects thrown by their fans
(only one cup tossed at the Yell Leaders)
and increased the
amount of damage done to their stadium during the game
(at least three bleachers were torn from the concrete and
crowd-surfed to the back of the stadium as opposed to only
one in 2003).

Some complaints have been filtering in from Texas Tech fans
that we Aggies are unjustified in our accusations that they are
classless clowns. While it is nice to see they have matured
from throwing goalposts to throwing complaints, personal
experiences in Lubbock
have given me more than enough
ammo to shoot down their objections.

Let's begin with Saturday's game. Seated with the band, I was
fortunate enough to not only be within earshot of half of
Tech's illustrious student section, but I could even see
all of their clever hand gestures like the "middle finger"
and the "upside-down gig 'em" and even the brilliant "double
middle finger."

When thoughtful chants like "Aggies suck" lost their luster,
Tech fans then turned their attention to the band and
began crying, "Hitler youth
." Apparently songs like "God
Bless America" hold a different meaning in Lubbock.

And just in case there were any doubts, the Tech fans proudly
displayed their mastery of the written word by holding up
signs saying "McNeal is a [deleted]" and "I gig'd your mom"
followed by "me too" and "I got next." In 2003, one fan held
up a white towel with the words "gig this" above an elaborate
drawing of a [deleted]
. I would imagine that had he known
that "to gig" means "to stab with a harpoon-like device,"
he would have rethought his usage of the word.

Honestly, it wouldn't be fair to draw conclusions about Texas Tech
based solely on the actions of several hundred intoxicated fans.
Hence I will cite the flaws of their student newspaper, The Daily
Toreador, as well.

On Friday, the Toreador published an article called "A History of
Violence" by Jay Langley, in which the writer tries to prove that
Tech fans are no more rowdy than usual at games against Texas
A&M. This was a difficult task considering the swarms of police
officers attending the game and the mounted police that
escorted the band into the stadium.
The article then shoots
off in a different direction as it cites the collapse of the Aggie
Bonfire as something that will never happen at Tech. While
that may be true, Langley's prospective career as a journalist
suffered a major setback when he wrote, "In 2001, the night
before a football game, a bonfire collapsed killing 12 A&M students
..." I'm not sure where Langley gets his facts, but according to
the Bonfire Memorial, the stack collapsed a week before the
game against the University of Texas in 1999. I guess the
time change between College Station and Lubbock is about
two years and a week.

It's times like these that make me thankful that I'm
a Texas Aggie.
