Conversation with Georgetown OL Steven Brent

Postby Fox 7 Sports » Mon Jan 14, 2002 12:16 am

Fox 7 - Steven, we haven't talked in awhile. What's going on with you?

Steven - Friday, I'm going up to Vanderbilt. Then next weekend I'm going to Baylor. And I have to call the coach back from the Huskers & LSU to talk with them later this week.

Fox 7 - I know you told me that you had camped Nebraska and it seems to me you had been over to LSU this fallas well?

Steven - I went to a game over there and I'm going to try and squeeze in a visit.

Fox 7 - So where do you stand right now?

Steven - Right now I'm waiting to see what's going to happen with everything. As far as offers go, it's still just SMU.

Fox 7 - So is SMU still very much in the mix?

Steven - Yes.

Fox 7 - If you had your preference, who would you like to call with an offer the most?

Steven - The Huskers, they're by far my favorite.

Fox 7 - So what are you doing to keep in shape this winter?

Steven - Track. I'm competing in the shot put. I started my sophomore year and I enjoy it. My PR is 57' 8".

Fox 7 - I'll call back and check in you the next couple of weeks to see how the visits went.

Steven - All right, thanks.

Nice work, FOX - thanks for the update. Send him to SMU, because we need more offensive linemen. How big/fast/strong is he?

According to the FOX website, Brent is 6-4, 270 and runs a 4.8 40. Nice feet for a big kid. Add him to the list, and I feel pretty good about the bodies on both side of the line.

Fox 7,

I have a questions. I have looked up Steven on Rivals and they have him as being interested in Nebraska, OU, Tx Tech, Baylor, Houston, Vanderbilt, and of course SMU. But it says on rivals that Steven has only received an offer from SMU even though he is still big on Nebraska. Is the reason other schools like Nebraska and OU haven't made offers to him because they don't have room to offer him a scholarship or are they questioning his level of play? The guy looks like he could be a promising lineman but I have never seen him play so I'm not sure. Is this guy any good? Rivals has his stock rising but he is just a two star lineman, which is still really good for SMU. Let me know.

Also, Vincent Young, the stud QB for Houston Madison committed to Texas yesterday. It would be awesome if SMU could start getting some of prospects of that caliber. Hopefully Coach Bennett will turn things around and start getting talent like that.

Steven suffered a shoulder injury at Nebraska Camp. That slowed him some early in the season as he was working to get back at full strength. Perhaps some schools were scared off. But by all acounts, he's back to nearly 100% and is going to be a quality interior offensive lineman for some one. Schools like Nebraska & LSU saw him while he was healthy and know how good he can be. But apparently, they are waiting to see where some players higher on their particular board fall. If he can slip through the cracks to the Ponies, it could prove to be quite a steal.
