You can't agree. You have no expectations.

YOu beat me to it, General.
With the confidence that June Jones displays, I think it lessens the importance of the game somewhat. He hasn't been raising expectations in the same way Bennett tried t. He says he expects to turn it around, but he is not saying he expects to go to a bowl or compete for a conference championship like Bennett did, so it doesn't feel like he is selling a bill of goods. He just says he expects to win and leaves it at that. Therefore, I believe he will calmly build throughout the season and no matter what happens at Rice. I must say I like that approach much better.
That being said, I want a win so bad I can taste it = no getting stopped on the 1 yard line, for Pete sakes.

good points.
i think the Rice game is KEY!!! you must win the first game to get the season started .....unless it is against an opponent that is top 10.
dont under estimate this game folks.......it IS a must win game. AND if you look at the Rice boards, they want this one BADLY!
JJ is smart by being savy about it.... why put up lofty expectations. he is king now and SMU was 1-11.

He did not say he expected to win, just that it's a must-win. I agree.

I know it takes several games to get the offense up and running, but just how bad was the O in the first few games with a new QB?

I don't understand the idea of "must win", or rather i get it, but don't agree with it. Shouldn't EVERY game be a "must win"? I know there are teams on our schedule that are better than us, talent wise, and some that are expected to beat SMU. Do you think a coach goes into the locker room before a game and says, "alright guys, we're playing Texas Tech today, so it's not a must win. just give it a shot and let's not lose too badly"?
what a bunch of bull. we have pulled off upsets in the past (even recently beating a ranked TCU team), so no game is out of the picture for a win. "must win" is loser talk.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

Am I missing something, or do we not have a game that day?

I've got us losing to Rice 38-21. I just don't see it coming together enough to take our first game against a tough foe on the road.

sorry, I did not mean to call you out, I just wondered if, as is often the case, I was on the dark on something critical.
09.20.08 is indeed the most important game. I cannot wait to see the South-East corner of Ford run purple with Froggie-tears.

That is not a particularly sunshiney expectation.
