I can think of two...Mitch Mustain at Arkansas his freshman year and Max Hall at BYU last year. Hall hadn't played since 2003 when he was in high school.
Hmmm....yeah didn't he have DMcFadden and other solid players around him (which I assume he would, Arkansas usually pulls decent talent)? Not to take away from such an accomplishment but I'd rather be in his shoes than Bo's.
Right, but I am just trying to figure out the success stories. Maybe that will help me keep my hopes up.
Is he the great coach everyone says he is? His record in the pros was 21-39 as head coach of two teams. The pros worked the run and shoot out and could defence it thus it became known as the throw and hope. I believe the coaches down in Florida and Miss. and Sumlin at UH may have a thought or two on how to do this also, but I have been out of the loop a long time so could be wrong. It does scare me for freshman qb's to start.

He would be stupid not to. Tulane lost their qb to probaseball and were weak at that position. He could set for a year and still have a good playing year or two.
JWill already used his RS year, so would need to transfer to I-AA (FCS for you purists) to have 2 more seasons of eligibility. Would not be surprised to see it happen, because he's not guaranteed Jones will renew his 'ship for Senior season. "Thanks" for all you've done, Justin...but college football has become big business and my take on this is that either Jones is putting him through the ultimate character test...or his football career at SMU is over.

Looking at transfering to a lower division FCS school as we speak. I am sure if he can find a suitor quickly (and he should) he will be gone before school starts.
JW has been very loyal to SMU and he has been one of the bright spots watching the ponies the last few years. Really a huge slap to him. Not sure if there is a more accurate passer in Div1 currently and the kid did it without a lot of support.
Good luck to him and maybe we will be reading about him for years to come.

Former SMU QB's have fared pretty well at SHSU and Tarlteon in the past.......

Has he been loyal? Was skipping class and slacking off last year being loyal? I'm going with no.
The kid is a good QB, but he isn't the guy Coach Jones chose. Is being the starter one year a guarantee that you'll start the next year under a new coach? I don't see it as a slap. It would only be a slap if he had done everything expected of a leader on the team, practiced better than any of the other guys, and still been #3.

Just to clarify: Sam Houston State is a Div. 1 FCS (formerly Div. 1-AA) school. Tarleton State competes at the Div. II level.

"should we be shocked that Jones is going with the only guy HE RECRUITED?"
Obviously Justin is not a good fit in the June Jones offense.
Justin seems like a good kid, is a great athlete in certain situations, and if he departs I wish him well.
The sooner we let go of the past the sooner we get to where we want to be.
Let June be June. And even if you don't he's going to do it his way anyway.
Pretty much across the board June Jones is very highly respected.
And here comes the "doom & gloom platoon" when he makes his first big decision.
I sware you guys are pathetic and a few of you are probably trolls trying to stir up trouble because you know what's coming in the next couple of years.
Think "BIG PICTURE" people!
Tell me who do you trust Stallion or June Jones?
Any Questions?

Look...June is going to play the players that he thinks can best get the job done, and will also be avaiable for the entire season. Not sure that he wanted to depend on someone with JW's past academic issues.

Thanks!
We are running a Run and Shoot offense. Just get over the fact that JW is not a Run and Shoot QB.

Or sent him on his way in the Spring. Hindsight is 20/20 of course, but both sides would have benefited from an early parting.

i guess you could say its a slap in the face. Jones wasnt paid the big bucks to let the previous starter keep his job. JW messed up and that mistake most likely cost him the starting job. If you read the press release about what he said, he hasnt fully ruled out JW, that means he wants him hear fearing that the freshman may not be able to handle the pressure.
If you look back at his second year at Hawaii, the guy he selected was a junior who admitted about 2-3 games into the season that he wasnt fully prepared to start because he didnt know the playbook that well, and who came in to play at QB for JJ, a freshman by the name of Timmy Chang. he owns a few NCAA records still, i think

And the season after that Timmy Chang was hurt and the guy who was passed over (who was 3rd team to start the season) went 8-1 and had one of the most amazing stretches I've ever seen a QB have.
