JW [/b]was the best player. BLM isnow our best player. You guys won't miss JW after BLM breaks all his records.

With a new coach, every player starts at the bottom of the chart. You have to prove yourself no matter what your past history is. New coaches have new philosophies and strategies that require different skill sets. They have to see if your skills will fit the system. If JW is the best qb then he would have the starting job, June is no dummy. Was JW really that good anyway? We went 1-11.

JW being a dumb [deleted] in the spring and getting himself suspended didn't help his chances though.

Stallion wrote:Yea that's the guy I'm talking about-the guy who set all kinds of SMU passing records as a Freshman and Sophmore-maybe if our Coaches showed more confidence in the above QBs for more than a semester or so we might get an experienced QB who might be able to use that 4 year experience to lead us to the Toilet Bowl. Go back and check the QB Catastrophe's listed above. 10/11 of those kids played in their Freshman or first year from JUCO. Most were run off after about 3 semesters. That's just ridiculous. In just about every case SMU would have been better off committing to the more experienced QB and sticking with him to develop his talent instead of leading a Cheerleader Parade for the next inexperienced Boy-Wonder.

I am shocked. I actually totally agree with Stallion. The only difference is that I will be happy happy happy to be proven wrong.

JJ knows nothing about prior history at SMU and doesn't care to know about prior history at SMU. He's doing what he feels is right based on the here and now.

He knows everything about the prior history. That is why he is here. He wanted to rebuild another program that was as low as it could get.

Understood, but that's not the history I was referring to.

You think he gives a damn about the QB carousel here at SMU in the past? All he cares about is the here and now -- who is the best QB to lead this team given the offensive philosophy.

My only concern, now having resigned myself to the QB situation as announced, is that he is not making this change at the expense of another season. After twenty-plus years of futility, we deserve a coach who gives us every chance for a taste of winning, and I mean now. If we go 3-9 with a true freshman, and Jones gives us some kind of post-season analysis that "we knew all along we'd struggle with a freshman but we're playing for the future"--or some similar crap--I am going to be pissed.

I took comfort in the assumption that i thought JJ was too old to play for the future. Right now, it does look as if he may be playing for the future. Now, whether that was his decision or Willis left him no choice, I dont know and we may never know. The other potential guy to blame in the all this is Bennett for not having recruited better. Well you can also blame JJ for not getting a juco of some kind in here.

The fact is we have a problem. Unless Bo Levi overcomes large odds that most true freshman struggle mightily at the college level, this season will be toast. Odds are this season is toast (see disclaimer below for polyannas). Blame who you want, it doesnt matter, but it is disappointing.

* disclaimer: yes, there is A CHANCE of a winning record and bowl game this year, but the odds suck really bad.

He has already remarked candidly about our lack of talent in many areas. I do not think he would have to play the QB card as an excuse.

And I don't know if he will, but if he does, it will suck.

I think the only card he would play if any at all will be the lack of comparable talent card.

No doubt. We've been playing that hand for a long time.
