A Look at GT and PJ

Postby SMU2007 » Fri Aug 29, 2008 8:08 am

So last night Georgia Tech had their first game with PJ at the helm. For anyone who missed it, here's how the stats broke down.

total passing yards: 135 (8 completions on 15 attempts)
total rushing yards: 349 (on 46 attempts)

most rushing attempts by 1 player (11 attempts by 2 players)

I guess they were up by a lot quickly but is this the kind of offense PJ is going to continue to run at GT?

yep - that's why Stallion was so worried about having him as HC. Stallion says it won't work against the majors...we'll see

I cetainly do not speak for Stallion, but I do not recall him saying it would not work in the majors. I do recall him saying we would not be able to recruit good receivers or running backs, or passing QBs. He also said that the good receivers and RBs we currently had would probably be looking to transfer.

I do believe some of the skill players did transfer from GT and some committements changed which does back up his beliefs.

If I am wrong in my recollection....nevermind.

myrdel, I looked up some old posts and found this post from Stallion. The funny thing is that he then goes on to say that the option doesn't work at A&M and then, a month or so later, he was lobbying for Franchione because of his perceived recruiting prowess.

it will NEVER EVER happen. And if it does he will get fired within 3 years. The days of the wishone at the Big 12 Level are over boys and girls. Players in the Big 12 are too big, fast, strong and quick. That's the reason it doesn't work in the NFL and why it won't work in a Top BCS conference. Texas A&M tries to run that style of option football-and their Coaches is just about out of time. Sorry to break up this Paul Johnson love fest but no quality football program is going to take a chance on a guy who hasn't proven that he can accomplish the most important factor in a quality program-Recruit.

i am glad we have JJ but PJ will do well at GaTech....his system is tough to defend. most of the option haters will regret their statements.

I think Paul J. will do well at GT but lets tap the breaks a bit. They just played Jacksonville State, not USC(the real USC in California)

True, I definitely wasn't making any reps that beating JSU meant anything but I do think PJ's system will work though not as well as JJ's

Do not overlook the fact that it is particularly difficult to for opposing teams to learn how to defend (normally in 5 practice days) against the PJ Georgia Tech offense. One of the reasons for the success at Navy was that teams were simply not able to prepare and adjust to an offense they have never or seldom seen. In many respects, this same factor also affects teams preparing to defend the Run and Shoot thereby giving the Ponies some inherent advantages.
