I still have complete confidence in June Jones.

The jury is still out on Tom Mason as DC, though. You HAVE to stop runs up the middle!

I agree. I am worried about our D coaches.

did you see the personnel out there? no disrespect to the individual players but some of the LBs and DBs are in over their head out there. too slow to react to the ball....remember the 30 yd gain by the Rice QB? if you TIVO'ed it please look at how one of our guys sits there like a dead duck watching him pass him by....

the coach can't make the players perform better than what they are.

Coaches CAN put their players in a position to make the play. We were doing that in the 1st quarter. We didn't do that for the rest of the game.

1st Quarter - McCann matched up with Dillard - Dillard does nothing. Rice offense does nothing.

Rest of game - Dillard moved to other side of field - Dillard destroys us, forcing us to play more of a coverage D, opening up the middle of the field to the run. Clement up the middle, Casey up the middle, etc. etc. etc.

dude, let the coaches at least recruit a class or two before you freak out. they are dealing with PB's leftovers...

watch Smart (especially when you speak of plays up the middle) and Castro....that will about sum up my point.

smart plays high and moves his feet only after he recognizes the play at which point the RB/QB has already gone through the line.

he's too slow...

I think you guys have brought up alot of issues about our defense in the Rice game. No question, this was about the worst defensive performance by an SMU D for 3 quarters post DP that I have seen. BUT I certainly think JJ is a great proven Coach, so I expect him and his staff to get this straightened out.....I think Coach needs to lighten up on playing so many true freshman. None of them appear ready to start/play much now and they are making huge mistakes.

Holy crap — the offense isn't the only unit learning a new system and new terminology and what new coaches want. Smart played his first game at LB in over a year. Let's grant him a little adjustment time, huh? He runs just fine for the MLB position.

Coach Jones has said many times that BLMitchell will be better once he stops thinking and just reacts. I'm guessing the defense will, too. How good they'll be remains to be seen, but I believe they'll get better.

Can't wait to see them in person this Saturday! GO MUSTANGS!

Nov. 3, 2007. Rice 56 UTEP 48.

Ironically, they lost by that same score, at Houston. The Owls scored alot of points last year, but couldnt stop anyone to save their lives.

I know CallahanStang has complete confidence in Jones-what I want to know is if you now have complete confidence in Chase Clement. You took some big shots at the guy. 6 TD passes in 3 Quarters. He's beat the crap out SMU for two straight years-perhaps time to realize you were WRONG!!! I suggest you get CBS-C and actually watch some Rice games before you jump off the cliff next time.

You can begin to point the finger at June when he gets his recruiting class in. Not after an inherited 1 and 11 team.

Clement was very good, no doubt. After watching some of TCU-New Mexico yesterday I fear the next thing he's wrong about will be the fact that TCU is "down" (from the signature). Not that I agreed with that in the first place.....

Stallion - I'll say this: Clement is better than what I thought he was. That being said, he is NOT a world-beater. We've made him look MUCH better than he actually is with our I-wish-I-could-call-it-mediocre-but-it's-really-just-plain-sucky defense.
