Worst Announcers Ever

Postby docabel » Sun Aug 31, 2008 12:12 am

Just to change the subject a little, the two clowns on ESPN last night had to be the worst announcers I have heard in a long time. Did they only get a handful of stories/notes for the game, because there were certain "facts" ingrained on my brain by the end of the game as they repeated these same stories ad nauseum...

JWill was suspended for spring ball, came back for fall ball and was given every opprotunity to win the job but coudn't...

Casey (aka THOR) played 7 positions last year, is 23 but will turn 24 in September, is a man amongst boys, and really appreciates his scholarship because he rode on a bus in minor league baseball...

BLM is from a suburb of Houston, but only threw the ball 10 times a game in HS....

The Rice coach goes to the center of campus before each home game to give away 50 pizzas to the student body ( I actually think he is a pizza delivery guy, supplementing his "paltry" salary)

I thought they were excellent. They pointed out before it happened that Jones was protecting Mitchell from his inability to read a defense by throwing bombs, shuttle passes and screens. When Rice handled those plays the ballgame was over. One of the best analysis of a situation as I've seen in awhile.

I thought they were good also - how much do you expect them to know about SMU football? On a national (or even regional) scale the average fan doesn't know - or care - about us at all. They analyzed the game well and mentioned all the key points, including how BLM started off better than expected.

Quit whining.

Someone please tell me: was there an onside kick at the end?

Postby MiracleOnMockingbird » Sun Aug 31, 2008 3:50 pm

After the last SMU touchdown the first part of the kickoff wasn't shown while the announcers told one of their "interesting" anecdotes and showed a player on the sideline.

Since the tail end of the play showed bodies crashing around midfield, I assume it was an onside or a really short squib????? They never did bother to say what happened.

They are doing the Louisville/UK game today (I think) and they are repeating the story about the UofL player that was shot this summer and is miraculously playing today. Didn't get the audio from Friday, but if it was anything like this, it is annoying but they do seem to know what they are talking about.

Until we can be competitive, Steve Orsini should turn down any "national" game on ESPN - especially if they are to start the season. The start to the 2008 season looked just like the start of the 2007 season - except that there were less people in attendance.

Even if that means negating the huge financial benefit we get from it?

And don't forget that this year's loss is a conference loss.

Actually I think arm fatigue was a part of at least two INT's. He under threw one ball and on another he just lobbed up for a jump ball. That's also inexperience. They go hand-in-hand. Either way, BLM has a lot of learning to do and some strengthening to do.
