We Blitzed?

Postby Stallion » Tue Sep 02, 2008 11:35 pm

I saw DE Youri Yenga get to the QB a few times on regular rushes-if we blitzed -we aren't very good at it. The problem I see is that the starters have very little athletic ability to get to the QB. They'd be better off going with blitz packages with guys sitting on the bench in situational substitutions.

We Blitzed.... you mean now or during the game?

Um, because I think I could find us a way of getting 'us' there. You know, just trying to show that I am willing to give it the 'old college try'.

Maybe I should read the dmn story you reference 1st, but I didn't see a ton of LB designed blitzes. They dropped back in coverage a lot. Yenga's just a quick dude and got to the QB fast.

<edit> oh, I get it. They were supposed to blitz, and they didn't know that. So instead of "jetting" to the ball as they were taught all spring and August, they dropped into coverage. Methinks either our d-line is anemic, Mason is grossly mistaken, or our LBs need to come out a series to think about mental errors.

I agree with stallion, we didn't blitz as much as I had expected.

What I saw was an aggressive defense the first couple of series, and then one corner and the rest of the team backed off after we went up 13-0 and played tentative after that.

I agree-when we took the lead we started looking like last year's defense-bend but don't break. Go figure. The bottom line is this defense isn't talented enough to hang with a spread offense for a whole game-yet.

Agree with all of you. Clement was forcing throws in the beginning, thich of course led to 3 dropped potential INT's by our defense. It seemed like they on their heels after that. But like Stallion said, I didn't see a lot of blitzing.

McCann had one TFL though I do not recall it. It may have been a receiver stepping back or a running play as opposed to a blitz.
