Many ads look at your IP address, and thus your location, and customize your ad to your area. People in boston won't see an SMU ad.

For the record, my office has a California IP address. I am looing at ads on ponyfans for the SoCal Chrysler dealers and Madonna Live at Dodger Stadium.
