It does no good to play the blame game. Bennett was operating under totally different conditions than JJ. He had severe budget constraints, a cautious AD who did not know how to get alumns involved, an AD with huge budget problems plus unrealistic academic and recruiting restraints.
Give them credit for graduating their kids and running a reasonable/clean program. Hence, it is not to difficult to understand why the talent level is not where it needs to be. No need to hash over history as there is nothing that can be done about it. Situation is to take current conditions and start turning things around. I think that our recruiting for 2009 proves that is being done. With the new and loosened recruiting and academic requirements we can expect better talent and a more competitive program. This comes with some potiential risks. I live near Penn State which is a good school. Yet their program is plagued with off field and character issues despite a highly respected coach Joe Paterno. In the last 3 years they have had roughly 15 football players arrested, suspended from school for fights and sexual/rape allegations or removed from the program without public explanation. Penn State is typical of many of the big time programs including the hated ND who has a national recruiting program and can select quality kids. ND had players arrested this past weekend. Bottom line is that there is a fine line in recruiting talented and quality people vs. simply recruiting talented kids with no academic interest/capability only in the interest of big time winning. Yes, I want the Mustangs to be competitive and win; however, do not want to see the academic image/reputation of the school tarnished because of a few future athletes who have no interest in education.
Hell while we are at it lets blame PB for the lack of fire in the players. Lack of leadership on and off the field. There are about 40 lettermen on this team (22 Jr & Sr). I don't see where the current coaching staff is motivating this team. They went through the motions on Sat night. As I said in other post they mailed it in early.
i also blame General Joe's Chopsticks and the old grumpy lady that was at the register!
The blame game is pointless. We are stuck with a team that at this time is not very good. Good coaching can not compensate for all the problems. Only time and better recruiting can do this. JJ has shown that
he can recruit. Our problems will dissolve over time. Players recruited for a spread offense should be able to adjust. Dutch Myer's 1930's spread offense has been duplicated many times. It's never really been derailed. As the QB improves every problem will also improve. You're in trouble when your twin sister forgets your birthday.
Have to agree with you AC. Unless JJ has eligibility to QB the team, he cannot change everything that is wrong with the team overnight. Enjoyed meeting you at the TCU game.
Overall? or Only with respect to Football? And don't ask me my opinion of Ben Bernanke and Henry Paulson and their "UnAmerican Financial Socialism" SMU - IT'S YOUR TURN
FIRE JUNE JONES ![]() USC Trojan for Life and SMU Dad!
Asking the question does not seem necessary...your opinion is rather obvious. ![]() SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Chris Castro will not learn anything sitting on the sidelines with Coach Jones. Coach Jones just went to a BCS Bowl. Do you think you are smarter than Coach Jones? (did I get that asinine argument down correctly?)
.......................Thanks Stallion. I got it......He can't taclke, cover, or catch now, but if he stays on the field long enough he will become an All American !
