Wish I had known in advance that the MB was going to perform at halftime. We might have stayed at the game for more than 20 minutes.
Today reminded me why I no longer care about professional football or pro sports, overall. And it makes me appreciate being an SMU fan now, more than ever! BornRed&Blue and I were given free tickets and a 'Red' parking pass. We left our house in north Dallas at 1:15 for a 3:15 kickoff. Took Loop 12 to the Hwy. 114 intersection (as the online instructions said to do for 'red' parking lot). Got in line for the 'red' parking lot at 1:30. Sat in traffic until 3:15 when we eventually got to the 'red' parking lot entrance, only to find that it had 'closed' 15 minutes earlier because it was 'full'. Sat in traffic for another 30 minutes until we were directed to the 'cash' parking lot near the Trinity River. We were then directed to the furthest parking space at the rear of the lot. Then we walked....and we walked...and we walked. During our trek we passed tailgaters upon tailgaters, none of whom intended to go into the game, sitting in the most uninviting tailgate atmosphere I've ever seen! Concrete everywhere and not a sign of a tree! LONG LIVE THE BOULEVARD! 15 minutes later, we got to Texas Stadium (missed kickoff). After being frisked and patted down, we got inside. Our seats were in Sec. 21, Row 32 (endzone) and directly in the sunlight and would be for the entire game. (Whose idea was it to put a hole in the roof again? ![]() We left after standing/sitting in our sun-drenched seats for about 20 minutes. Saw each team score a TD, though. The noise, the smell, the heat, the drunks, the p!ss poor parking, etc. was ridiculous. I love to watch football but not in this kind of atmosphere. And I kept thinking: maybe 0.5% of the people who were in Texas Stadium today will get to attend a game in the new stadium when the Cowboys move out there next year. If this is pro football, you can have it.
Don't diss on pro football because your poor planning put you in a miserable position. Unlike SMU games, the Cowboys draw 65,000 fans at at least half as many cars which cause traffic. You can't leave your house 2 hours before game time and expect to get there easily. It's not pro football's fault that you left too late and probably went the wrong way.
I was there too and had a grand old time made even better by the surprise appearance by The Mustang Band. Great job with the limited time you were given. (What the heck was that name that tune business anyway?) Too bad the Cowboys didn't play as well as Mustang did.
Hey, if you have to leave your house MORE than 2 hours before game time when you live only 15 minutes from the stadium, you can have it. Thankfully, it's the last time I'll ever set foot in that godforsaken dump. I had not been to a Dallas Cowboys game at Texas Stadium since the early 1980s. So, I checked the Cowboys' web site to get the correct directions. If there were a 'next time' I'd email you. But there won't be. So we're both good.
found this with an smu reference on it on that page http://www.theheckler.com/news/templates/?a=1664&z=38
Is that an SMU reference in today's Tank Macnamara cartoon? (Justin Dropback)

This stuff is great. I especially love the one about T. Boone Pickens planning to use Jerry Jones' "wind production" to rid our dependence on oil. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Larry Brown? We have Larry Brown? Cool!
I agree with you 100% - pro football is made for TV, college football is made to watch in person. I was at the monday night game 2 weeks ago (my first Cowboys game in 5 years) and I was completely underwhelmed by the entire experience. That was a great game, but it would have been better had I seen the 1st half instead of being stuck in traffic for 2 hrs getting there (literally with the stadium in view the entire time) and if there were actually any parking spaces left in the "blue" areas for me to use my pass. Not to mention the fact that I think 80% of the people there spend a considerable amount of their monthly wages to get that ticket - definitely a VERY blue collar crowd. Give me any college game in the country over that crap. No thanks. There's a reason I have an HDTV and beer in my fridge.
LOL, this thread proves how soft Dallas fans are. You left 2 hrs before kickoff, then left after 30 minutes? are you kidding me? Obviously, Texas Stadium is a dump and tailgating is some of the worst in the league, by far, but make a day of it. Get there, tailgate, be prepared, have fun at the game. What is so hard?
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.â€- Jalen Jones
Try getting out to FedEx Field sometime from anywhere in the Metro DC area and then try leaving after the game. If you take metro you walk 1.5 miles to the stadium or wait for a shuttle bus. If you drive, there are two ways in and two ways out. Plan on arriving early enough to tailgate and plan on leaving late enough to tailgate. And by the way, Dallas lost!!! LOL.
Being an SMU fan is a far cry from your manifesto days.
Welcome back to the loony bin. I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.
How horrible, sitting with the proletariat. How dare they not be born to a rich daddy!
Wow, that fits, most Dallas fans are Trailer Trash. I'm sorry, I couldn't resist that one. Unfortunately most of the fans at FedEx seem to be of the Brie and Chablis crowd. Oh look there's a game going on with those unbearably sweaty individuals.
I wasn't born to a "rich daddy" and I'm not a trust fund baby. I'm just saying it's a different crowd out there - one that likes to get drunk and obnoxious at a very rapid rate. And btw, standing up the whole game and cheering is not obnoxious - swearing incessantly, grabbing people around you and screaming when drunk, and making me step back 500 times a game so that you can go buy another beer definitely are. This is why I also wouldn't go to a Big 10 football game or one in Lubbock if I had the chance....
